Timntx Cliquot Club (KLEE-KO KLUB) was a big seller in SoCal when I was a kid. The Ginger Ale was a very light--very bubbly soda. (The opposite of Vernors). My step father used it as the mix of choice for his nightly 'Hi-Ball'. I have seen it a few times in the past decade, but try as I will, I can't remember where.

As some posters above, I remember the Pop Shoppe. They had a great assortment and the soda was "real" tasting (probably real sugar). I particularly liked the grapefruit flavor. The grape was pretty good too.

Clicquot Club was a brand whose heyday was probably the 1930s. Like Shweppes and Canada Dry, Clicquot CLub was marketed primarily as a mixer. They must have done pretty well back then, as they sponsored a radio show starring The Clicquot Club Eskimoos. http://www.redhotjazz.com/eskimos.html

We had Clicquot Club in S.E. New England in the 60s and possibly a little later. Cott ("It's Cott to be good!") and Canada Dry were two their big competitors in the mixer/seltzer market in our area (and I think I remember another with a trademark of a nymph or something at a spring). According to Wikipedia, Clicquot Club started in Millis, Mass. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clicquot_Club_Company Many of the old plant buildings are still there, some still marked with the company's signage. I recall that some of these companies used to market two varieties of ginger ale, "pale dry" and something else. One was typically amber in color, the other clear or very light hued. Anyone else remember these?

As a kid growing up in St. Louis I remember the OLD Squirt--much better than today's version. For those big BBQ's a huge eced tub full of Shastas in all sorts of wonderful flavors. Here in The Woodlands, TX (just north of Houston) we can get Frostie rootbeer at Walmart. What about Hires rootbeer? Is that still around anywhere? I've always wanted to try Cheerwine and Moxie, but would have to special order online so haven't done it yet.

I don't believe that nobody mentioned a great little soda called "Green River" Used to love getting it in 35 cent glasses at the movie theatre. I do believe you can still get Hires in some locals. Have you tried Frostie's Vanilla Root Beer ?

White Rock is still in business. When I was a kid in NY a truck would roll through the neighborhood during the summer selling a variety of White Rock sodas in quart bottles iced down. I would chug a bottle of White Rock Black Cherry until I got brain freeze. Good stuff. He did better business than the Good Humor man.

Deserving special mention is Nattura Svali Sparkling Spring Water. It doesn;t seem to exist now, and you can't even find it in Google. Not into sparkling stuff that much, since it is to me like soda with less flavor. But this brand came in clear PLASTIC, 10 oz CANs. I had always said they should have that, so you could see inside, like the bottles. Yet the problem was recycling, because the top was still aluminum. Was just doing a move, and this was in a bag of stuff, such as my Crystal Clear Pepsi bottle label, and a Mexican 7-UP 10 oz, which was in a thick steel can. It was out around the same time as Crystal Pepsi (and I had even sent a plastic can to the local Pepsi bottlers to suggest using them for the Crystal Pepsi), and was an Iceland product that came through a Canadian distributor.

Green River is a regional soda. It's named for Chicago's bizarre habit of dying the Chicago Rover bright green for St Patricks Day. The soda is primarily available in the Chicago area and is bottled by Canfield's (who also make kickass Diet Chocolate and Diet Chocolate Cherry sodas).

I don't drink soda, because of the acid in it. Makes me wanna hurl. However, I do wish the "Skeleteens" line of sodas would come back to my area. The arcade near me carried them. From Dusk 'Til Dawn, Black Lemonade, Brainwash, etc. The company got ressurected and I find them online. Brainwash came in 3 colors: blue, green, and red. They had so much food coloring in them that as soon as I poured it into the sink I had to scrub to get it off! It instantly adhered to the sink. It also turned your poo colors.

Does anybodu remember the Mission brand of soft drinks? I used to get Mission grape or orange soda from a machine on the way home from grade school in Cincinnati. I also remember another brand of orange soda that featured a picture of a horse with a garland of flowers. Can't remember the name of that one, so if anyone else knows, I'd be grateful.

Ort: Only you can write like this. A little bit hard to decipher but poetically wonderful and beautiful. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN Sundancer, After all this time, I just now ran across this post. I am practically moved to tears by your kind words. This is off the soda topic, but utterly sincere, even if not timely. Thank you beyond words; I hope we get to meet up soonly for that pint or two -- and a meal at Mama's Boy beforehand. For the latter, you'll thank me, and maybe even for the former. Gratefully, Ort.
