The Big Twin, circa the early to mid '70's, was my favorite of all FF burgers, hands down. I have mentioned this before. The Hardee's (other than breakfast) crowd would quadruple if the original burger cooking method was re-introduced. For those of you who may have missed it; those WERE the good 'ole days. There is zilch business in any of the Hardee's locations in my area in SW Georgia after "breakfast" is over. I have learned that the employees of these places now park their vehicles in "prime" customer parking spaces after the breakfast hours just to give the illusion of business, etc. That is pathetic. DISCLAIMER: Not originally from where I currently reside.

I'll put in a few positive remarks about our Hardees here in Chipley:

1. Not throwing in the towel. A few years ago, they used to close at 6PM &
that gave the rest of the business to the competition. Even though it's 1.5
miles from I-10, it's the first place many of the Fla. 77 traffic from "downtown"
sees. Of course, the new Sonic is going to give everyone fits!

2. Improved service - they bring your order to your table; the restaurant is
neat & clean. Yeah, the breakfast shift is still popular, but lunchtime has
good crowds (high schoolers, travelers, etc....)

3. Truckers - the only FF outlet in Chipley that has a truck parking area,
despite not being next door to I-10.

4. Seniors - have a group that comes in the afternoons to chew the fat (no,
not the burgers); it's a nice, quiet atmosphere compared to the McDonald's
down the street.

5. And where else can you get ice cream, malts & hand-dipped shakes?

I don't know if I like the bringing the food to your table, it just feels weird at a place like Hardee's!!

Whataburger delivers the food to your table. At least it's edible.

At the risk of being publicly humiliated, let me say that I'm one of the very few people that actually REALLY MISSES McDonald's ill-fated ARCH DELUXE hamburger. From the peppercorn bacon to the premium bun, I thought it was top-notch for McDonald's.

But then again, what do I know, I also miss McDonald's Spanish omelet breakfast bagel, Taco Bell's chili cheese burrito, and even (gasp), the old PRE-Roy Rogers/Carls Jr Hardees 1/4 pound single cheesburger (w/ 2 slices of cheese, rare back then) that used to drip down your neck if you didn't have a napkin handy!

Arthur Treachers battered chicken (no, not the fish, but battered the same way).
Still nothing like it exactly.

Ginos Giant, the Gino Genie (actor Dom Deluise), & the original Kentucky Fried Chicken licensed under the strick supervision of Colonel Sanders himself. Sadly most of them eventually turned into Roy Rogers restaurants whose food made me physically ill (Marriot uses too much MSG)

Kenny Rogers Roasters, better than Boston Market by a mile even if Kenny Rogers didn't know what he was doing and also the best fast food macaroni and cheese ever invented! Nobody understands if you're gonna do mac & cheese it's NOT supposed to be day-old mush!

Oh, also Popeye's Cajun Sparkle seasoning (technically not discontinued or a purchased item, but few locations seem to have it anymore) and Bojangles "Dirty Rice" (also not discontinued, but there are none around much anymore and Popeyes imitation dirty rice is so inferior and dry)

Finally, Kentucky Nuggets are still available if you don't mind traveling to Maryland (see my other post).

Church's has a pretty good dirty aka "Cajun" rice. Nice & hot with jalepenos. Agreed Popeye's dirty rice is the pits now. Remember making it from scratch daily many years ago (fresh scallions galore...). Popeye's RB&R still pretty good, IMO. I gave up on their chicken years ago.

I will check out Church's Cajun Rice next week while I'm in Florida. Thank you!

Also, I noticed Bojangles is expanding, so maybe there's hope after giving up on Popeyes.
Bojangles also has some awesome fast food breakfast items too which Popeyes doesn't.
Popeyes red beans & rice may be good, but try to find some of it in their new Cajun burrito. What a great idea gone completely wrong. I've never gotten anything but a dried out chicken strip, dried out rice, and a couple dried beans. Pathetic.

And a notice for any travelers going thru Dothan, Alabama in the future:

Bojangles is on its way (right now, only the "Coming Soon" sign) - to be
located on the Ross Clark Circle West, south of the U.S. 84 intersection.

JB&B talk about Bojangles quite often. The nearest OPEN and operational Bojangles I have eaten at was in Augusta, GA. Glad to hear about the pending Dothan locale. I'll be there.

Adjudicator: There is an old Bojangles in Rome GA. During the week traffic backs up at breakfast time... excellent steak biscuits!!

Wendy's used to have chocolate chip cookies.

I also miss the Oasis in Lake Forest, IL. They had a hot dog stand & salad bar. I actually worked there for a bit.

The Mc'Donalds "QLT" Was the burger that was served in a special foam 2-piece foam package similiar to the egg breakfast tray that had the bottom bun, a quarterpounder patty on one side of the divided tray and the top bun, with cheese (if ordered) lettuce, tomato & mayo on the other and when the top foam lid was snapped on the bottom foam tray the hot stayed hot and the cold stayed cold as their advertising stated.

mcdonalds grilled chicken flatbread, and their chicken mgrill. The new mcdonalds grilled chicken taste like rubber imo, and they also changed the mayo used

I miss the old Sweet tasting Coke. The kind that tasted like they had the syrup turned up to much. The square ice cubes.

OK. Here is a no-brainer. I miss the original McDonald's, Hardee's (Charco-air-grill), Burger King, Wendy's, et.al., cooking styles. I especially miss the McDonald's original french fries, Wendy's original chili (THICK 'N MEATY), and perhaps above all, a friggin' TOASTED hamburger bun.

I miss toasted buns, too.

Wendy's brought back their Chicken Club, but are calling it something else & it comes with a iece of Swiss Cheese, which I always ask them to exchange for American.

The Whaler from Burger King. Loved the name. Made me root for the Hartford Whalers though I have no allegiance to Hartford.

I hate the thickburgers at hardees. When I wanted to indulge in a heart attack on a bun, I'd get a monsterburger and savour that bad boy. It was soooo good. Thickburgers are dry and unappealing. I'd rather hit the Mcd's for dollar doubles.

way back when, Jack in the Box had an item they called "Frings"

It was half an order of fries, and half an order of onion rings.

It was great for people that wanted both, but didn't have enough money.

Hardee's use to have pretty decent fried chicken. I like them because they were only two miles from my house. Any other fried chicken was ten miles away. If you could catch them right out of the fryer, it was pretty good along with their cole slaw and mash potatoes. Regardless, it is long gone and no longer available.

Only their company owned discontinued the fried chicken. I have found some franchise owners still doing it.

I am not saying they were great but I am saying they were handy.

Their biscuits are still very good.
