I miss the McSteak (?) sandwich. It was an oval-shaped patty, sort of like salisbury steak, with some sauce concoction that was kind of a cross between gravy and A1. It came on some sort of roll, not one of the burger buns. Also the McDonald's onion nuggets.

Wow, what a terrific thread, I am glad it has been "re-activated" with recent posts to have it come back onto page one. I went through the entire 7 pages worth of posts to get up to speed on this provocative journey down memory lane I am with Westlay from Charleston-IL and my So Cal colleague Cat Tracks, the Carl's Jr California Roast Beef sandwich was dynamite and when they went corporate eliminating them back in the late 70s or ealy 80s, it teed me off so much that after years of being a regular consumer of their Cali roast beef, burgers and hot dogs-which they also stopped serving, I have never returned. As also mentioned, I miss the original Jack in the Box breakfast croissaant sandwich and their Spanish omelette The original Mickey Dee fries were so much better, they ranked 2nd in my book after In n Out fries, now they are kaka The previous Coca Cola was far superior to the current "classic" which although they want you to belive is their previous formula, it is not. My best pal worked at the Coca Cola Botttling plant in Downtown L A when the change over occurred so I got the inside scoop of their plans ahead of time and purchased several cases of Coke before the changeover I also miss Wendy's birch beer, no longer offered, theirs was a fruity-redddish color style, as Ricky asked Lucy-"waaaaa appaned" to the Wendy's fish sandwich they had about a year ago?, it as a very tasty and hearty fish filet sandwich that should be returned When traveling to visit relatives in Metro NYC in the 1960s and 70s, I always enjoyed drinking Nedick's orange drink out of a paper cone container placed into a metal holder and munching a frank with their "Boston" style bun. I miss Pabst's premium beer, Andeker-far better than Michelob Bring back Helm's Bakery........ Finally, although not food or drink related, I miss the original Van's canvas sneakers with their legendary ground-glass soles, the onliest sneeks I have ever worn that would have the tops wear out before the soles-even when using them to play basketball on outdoor courts. When Mr Van passed away in the late 70s and the children turned over the firm to corporate America franchises after being a local So Cal phenom, they stopped making the ground -glass soles, what a shame!

JohnJax, Wendy's has the fish sandwich on their website, saying "for a limited time only." I think that "limited time" is Lent, which begins this Wednesday (Ash Wednesday). Last year they advertised the fish sandwich, including with coupons, in our weekly Catholic newspaper.

I remember seeing Pizza at McDonalds back in 1992...only when I went to Las Vegas tho. I miss the Pepperoni Pizza Dog from Orange Julius. I miss the grilled chicken strips from Popeyes. I miss those Hot Sams Pretzels dipped in that cheddar cheese.

Thanx for the heads up, if they are using the same fish filets as last year, I'll be consuming it often until they stop serving it again. I am not a catholic, roman or greek, so pardon my ignorance. Is eating meat on Fridays or during Lent still prohibited?

I think God has enough to worry about, pretty sure He doesn't care about our eating habits. You must try the Wendy's fish fillet. But be warned, our Wendy's keeps asking me to try this new Bacon Blue/Bleu Burger. It looks like it has bacon & blue/bleu cheese, hence the name.

McDonald's fish sandwiches used to be much better, now they're disappointing! Here's the Wendy's home page advertising the fish; hope you're able to find them near you: http://www.wendys.com/

IMO, quite bizarre

Jack in the Box had a delicious patty melt back in the 90's. 1/4 lb patty grilled onions bacon cheese mayo sauce all on, and this is the most important part, rye bread. not a patty melt without rye bread (like the sandwiches they try to pass off as patty melts now) I've emailed them a few times asking if they are ever going to bring it back and no response. lol.

blizzardstormus HArdee's Breakfast Steak & Egg Sandwich. I would order 2 with a copy of coffee and read the Sunday paper. oh me too, steak and egg biscuit was awesome. i worked there in the early 90's. moved to kansas where we have a hardees thats almost 100 miles away, and they dont serve hardly anything from the original menu. hardee's frisco sandwich was good with the onion mayo that came on it. i used to get a side of the onion mayo for my fries. hardee's also had beef and cheddar sandwiches and you could get a side of the cheddar for curly fries. mmm.

I remember seeing advertisements in 1995 in Port Angeles, WA fr McPizza, I still remember laughing about it, so McD's has obviously tried it more than once. What I miss: Wendy's salad bars KFC's all-you-can-eat bars (still available some areas) International Chicken Sandwiches from BK And that really is it....didn't eat much fast food growing up, and try not to eat much now, but those 3 stand out:)

Hardee's long-gone fried chicken was the second-best fast food bird that I've ever had. The only FF chain with better chicken, IMO, was the now defunct Golden Skillet chain on the East Coast. By the early '80s, GS had become a subsidiary of International Dairy Queen, which proceeded to run the fried chicken chain into the ground. I also miss the fried apple pies that McDonald's used to offer; McD's current baked version is a poor replacement.

Add me to the bandwagons for McDonald's fried apple pies and Hardee's char-broiled burgers (man, I've hated those new Hardee's burgers since they day they were introduced). I really wish Arby's would bring back the Triple Cheese Melt and Market Fresh Ranch Chicken sandwich. Also miss the sliders from the dearly departed Little Tavern (much better than White Castle, IMO--though I'll take a White Castle burger any day of the week!).
