Ah, that explains it.
By the way, I've had it with barracuda, too. That was on Anguilla.

Everything is good on Anguilla, mon. Tis the best island in the Caribbean and, my favorite.
Ahh, I remember those great BBQ grilled lobster tails on Scilly Cay.

I was on Anguilla when the British Red Berets invaded the breakaway island in 1969. Prince Charles was aboard the Frigate that landed the troops.

I always liked my big bologna sandwich with yellow mustard when I was a kid....when I got older the mustard changed to strawberry jam......

Miracle Whip, lettuce, and American cheese slices on white

Bologna and ketchup on white

Those are the two staples of my childhood. I still eat them. Add some chips and milk and i'm good to go.

Breakfast - Whole Wheat Toast, 2 Eggs, still a bit runny, bacon, tomato, Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly. PB&J go on separate slices of bread. Tomato MUST touch the jelly and Bacon MUST touch the PB.

BLT/Grilled Cheese. Done "Club" style. Made this one day when I just could not decide between a BLT or Grilled Cheese.

A combination hot corned beef and hot pastrami on rye with Swiss cheese and Batampte mustard.
Another is Genoa salami, sopressata, capicola, mortadella, sharp provolone, roasted red peppers and kalamata olives on a half loaf of Italian bread spread with olive oil, oregano and black pepper.

I'll have what he's having.

Crack two eggs into a hot pan, scramble them around a bit with a spatula, put them on well buttered white bread, top with ketchup
(be carefull..it gets messy when the butter starts to melt.  I usually eat it over the sink.)

here in the south, same thing except we prefer Duke's Mayonnaise.   And it's best when the tomato is still warm from being picked.

Sounds good, and simple.  Someone else mentioned leaving the yolks a bit runny.  I could see scrambling one egg to mix it around, then just pop the other, so it leaks a little, but saves that good couple bites.

The ketchup, yeah!  But for me, easy on the butter as long as the red stuff is there.

But isn't that crying out for a slice of cheese?  And Mr Benton's bacon?

Great with tomato soup, when your loved one has a cold.

Usually our Saturday night dinner was grilled steaks, baked potatoes and salad.  But if we were going to my Nona's house on Sunday, we would eat light.  Scrambled egg sandwiches on Mom's bread, Hellmann's mayo and thick slabs of fresh tomato.

Braunschweiger on wonder bread slathered in real butter and covered in thinly sliced purple onions.

Peanut butter spread on thin white farmer's bread and then topped with Owl's Nest cheddar spread cheese and topped with french onion dip.

Wonder bread spread heavily with butter and topped with mounding spoons of white sugar spread around and topped with another decadent slice.

Sliced sandwich bologna sauteed in butter and onions and thrown on a heavily buttered hard roll with some shredded cheddar cheese.

Okay, I'm hungry now....

Ate my first grilled corned beef & cheddar on sourdough at the Brown Palace in Denver 20 something years ago and when I cannot get a local deli to make it, I find some good corned beef at a deli market and make it myself.

For a quick fix sandwich it is
  1. Fried Bologna on buttered white bread
  2. Tuna in oil straight out of the can on lightly toasted white bread
  3. Braunsweiger  on buttered white bread with hot mustard
All of a sudden I'm hungry!!!!

Hot balony sandwiches are a West Virginia favorite. I get 1/2 inch balony from the deli, saute in my own quick hot bbq sauce. On a bun with lettuce , onion, & tomato.

I like to make a wrap with either a tortilla or a lavash type bread, with rare roast beef, tomato, onion, some kind of sprouts, cheese, oil and vinegar.
Another favorite, grilled cheese w/ bacon and tomato, on potato bread, with jalapeno mustard.
Or a tuna melt with solid white albacore tuna in water, with Italian dressing and finely diced celery and onion, and extra sharp cheddar on top.

Re:Favorite Homemade Sandwiches 2014/07/28 23:15:16 (permalink)
Currently this one is my favourite.

Garlic bolonga, fried with onions, until tender outside, yet soft inside, place onto bread, topped with American cheese (I guess you could use a more wholesome cheese, but i like the American cheese slices, let melt in, add home-made sweet sour crunchy coleslaw (boiled dressing comprising of oil, vinegar, sugar, salt, and mustard seeds), finely chopped tomatoes with chili sauce (spicy ketcup), and hot fries top with bread that has some of the dressed doused into it. I use a lean bread like French of Italian.

The other one is take two slices of Italian bread, brush with olive oil, on the inside and ouside, filled with mozzarella cheese slices (do not use low fat, reduced fat, try to find something creamy. Fry till crisp, meanwhile have ready a sauce of anchoives that are fried in butter until dissolved, at the last minute, add small capers for fine flavour, or chop up the larger ones. Cut sandwiches into halves, and pour the anchovy butter sauce over them. I sometimes sprinkle it with chives or parsley or fresh basil, and sometimes just without the herbs. I love the combo of creamy, salty, tangy, crunchy, soft, sweet, etc.
