Favorite Non alcoholic Beer

When I go on a no booze holiday, I drink NA Beer. My favorite, 2 actually are Old Milwaukee and Kaliber. I know this sounds crazy but a cold NA Beer drunk fast, is hard for me to tell the difference between a decent regular brew, in fact I would prefer any NA to a Coors Lite! What is your choice of NA Beer?

    No such thing for me. When I go on a no booze holiday, and that's most of the time, I drink iced tea, ginger ale, or root beer. The grain beverages do nothing for me without the complexity.

    Ya mean, there's alcohol in beer? No wonder it's so good.
    And hey, remember. It's not just for breakfast anymore.

    O'Douls in a bottle.

    When at home I make a drink I call Bloody Bull in the Garden;

    1 big can V8
    2 Beef Bouillon cubes

    Optional toppings;
    Louisiana Hot  Sauce
    Teriyaki sauce
    Soy sauce
    Claussen pickle juice
    Black pepper

    I put all of the above in mine... sometimes.

    Oh... boiled oyster juice if you have some. Those little cans of boiled oysters are good and cheep (99c) but... I hate to waste tha juice. It also makes a good dip mixed w/ sour cream. I make oyster shooters w/ the oysters. :~)

    I prefer Busch NA when very cold....Clausthauler (sp?) is also very good...both the amber and regular.

    I understand that States have different views on drinking a NA while driving. Some States I think consider it an alcoholic beverage because it does have alcohol in it (albeit 0.5%).
    Despite this you can drive around with Nyquill (14%) in the cupholder without a hassle.....

    Any thoughts or feedback/stories from your States?

    Clausthauler is my first choice, but O'Doul's, since they changed the formula for the better a few years ago, is my second choice due to its wide distribution.

    Beck's (and St. Pauli's too) were my wife's choice when she was in her mid to late pregnancy. She didn't chance it earlier, because there is a trace amount of alcohol in NA beer. My wife is a pretty good measure for beer, as she spent some time working at a micro-brewhouse. As part of her training she sampled all of the brews, and seasonal brews, and new brews. It was an ongoing training process. The owners and brewmaster wanted every employee to be familiar with each and every the brew and be able to knowledgably speak about them. They tasted batches over and over, over time, and talked about any differences they experienced.

    Ultimately, though, she preferred my many mocktails to NA beers.

    I used to like to buy a can of Birell once in awhile, walking around a shopping mall (the GNC type of "health food stores" used to stock it) and I bought it by the case in the summer, to alternate with real beer.  Birell was a licensed product originally from a Swiss brewery, Hurlimann, which also originated Samichlaus-  once the strongest beer in the world- so they had both ends of the spectrum covered.

    At the time Birell was brewed under license in the US by F X Matt and C. Schmidt's & Sons (and, over the years, probably others).  Unlike many NA's, Birell's emphasis was hops (they used "Brewers' Gold", the same hop used in Ballantine XXX Ale), so instead of tasting like malt syrup mixed with seltzer, Birell tasted like cold, carbonated hop tea.  Haven't seen it in years, but last time I checked it was still being brewed as a licensed product, by Coopers in Australia and by a European brewer.

    Zing ... great-grandaddy of all NA beers.

    Gimme an ice cold Zing.
    I don't know if it's produced anymore though ... haven't seen it in years.

    If you actually like the taste of beer, and don't just want something ice cold and fizzy, Bitburger Drive. Hard to find, but better than a lot of mass-produced "real" beers.
