Most often we buy Smuckers Natural---its the only one i can get that is not loade withy alot of NONpeanut stuff---but my favorite is that wonderful in storee grinder stuff that you can grind yourself and get as little or much as you like---FRESH ground taste so much better---plus no added in grediants---if im lucky i will find a place that offers it with either roasted and salted--or unsalted or even un roasted so i can get all three!

Any peanut butter that's just peanuts and salt. If I have to, I add my own salt. I have a question for any "border babies" out there. My US friends say that Canadian pb tastes different that US pb. Even the same brands like Skippy and Kraft. Any comments?

Billyboy has piqued my interest in Peanut Butter & Co. My local Hannaford has recently added it to the peanut butter section. As I recall they have four types available: Smooth Operator (all natural, just peanuts and salt), Cinnamon & Raisin (yuck) Also available is White Chocolate and Dark Chocolate (is it candy or peanut butter)? I think I will try the all natural one although it is twice the price of the standard peanut butters. I do hope big price equals big performance. Like many of the standard peanut butters, I do notice that Peanut Butter & Co. uses palm oil to avoid the trans-fat issue in their flavored offerings. Personally, I will not buy anything with palm oil because of the well documented health and environmental issues involved with it.

Hey Greyghost, gotta agree with you on the Cinnamon and Raisin. Its too thick and doesn't spread well at all. I do like honey, cinnamon and raisins on top of PB schmeared on a toasted bagel though. The Heat Is On PB is good, but its a little too much heat and it overwhelms the flavor of the PB, but if its paired with something, like the grilled chicken sandwich, it seems to work incredibly well. What are the issues with palm oil? I'm not in the know.

Although I can buy the Krema peanut butter in local supermarkets I have to go to the Krema store to get their cashew butter -- also all natural, and soooo good.

Michael: Thank you from me, too, for the Krema link. I'm definitely going to order some cashew butter for my husband. Have you ever tried the hot & spicy peanut butter? That looks interesting. May have to try some of that as well.

The guy who runs it has been crazy about PB forever! I am with you on the local thing...I will definitely give it a try. I will just have to refine my stirring technique...or buy a dog that likes peanut butter to clean up what I spill!

Kettle - the same company that makes Kettle Chips (if you are familiar with those). I love cashews and have tried the Kettle Cashew butter but didn't love it. Kettle PB is really good but has to be stirred. For no-stir I buy Adams no-stir creamy.

Speaking of peanut butter--yeah or nay on the hazel nut spreads, like Nutella? I must admit I don't have a taste for this stuff.

Peter Pan creamy here, grew up on it. I can't bring myself to try Nutella although it gets raves here. Watched a special on it last night on Food Network. Seems some kids prefer it over peanut butter, I can't get past the name.

Love the Nutella! One of my favorite breakfasts is a pressed Nutella and banana sandiwch served warm. Apparently, this stuff is as popular with European kids like PB is here in the states.

Fieldthistle PB and Nana sammie yummmmmmm I grew up with JIF, I like the extra crunchy. Peter Pan isn't too bad for a second choice However for a treat here is what I like to do Cashew Butter: 2 tablespoons honey 1/3 cup walnut oil 2 cups roasted salted cashews Place the honey in a microwave-safe container and heat in the microwave for 15 seconds. Remove from the microwave and add the oil to the container. Place the nuts in the bowl of a food processor and pulse for 5 seconds. Then, while the processor is running, very slowly drizzle in the honey and oil. Process until smooth, this will take approximately 45 seconds to 1 minute. If the mixture is too thick and doesn't spread easily, add a little more oil.

I like Smart Balance margarines so I bought a jar of Smart Balance PB, but I threw it away after a few tastes. I'm not sure if I had a jar that'd gotten rancid or what, but it had a real chemical taste to it that I couldn't get past. It takes a lot for me to waste or throw away food, but I had no trouble with this product. We like Jif because it melts nicely on toast (I know it's because of the nasty trans fatty acids ) but I also usually have a PB on hand like Smucker's Natural or Adam's or Crazy Richard's that you have to stir up before you use it and enjoy that sometimes. I like either creamy or crunchy-- depends on my mood.

I really like Whole Foods Organic Peanut Butter, and my opinion was bolstered recently when The Star-Ledger printed a review (syndicated, I believe) of peanut butters and they concluded that Whole Foods was the absolute best. Many of the commercial brands contain transfats, which should be avoided if at all possible. When Jif came on the market many years ago, people marveled at the creamy texture, which actually resulted from the blending of a small amount of Crisco into the peanut butter (Procter & Gamble made Crisco and Jif, so it was a marriage made in heaven for them). Now that the Jif brand has been sold to Smucker's it is possible that it has been reformulated, but I would advise anyone who is concerned about cholesterol to check the label of Jif and the other commercial brands to verify if they contain transfats.
