Favorite brand of peanut butter

We were bored today at work so we did a peanut butter poll. Peter Pan was the winner. What are some of the supermarket favorites here? Peter Pan? Skippy? Jif? Reese's (yes, they make a jar peanut butter)? Some other brand? Trader Joes? Creamy or chunky?

Jif. Usually creamy, but sometimes chunky. Unfortunately, Jif is usually the most expensive, so I only buy it if it's on sale. Which means we usually end up with the store brand. But store brands, while fine for eating, don't do well in recipes (too much liquid - fudge doesn't harden enough, pies turn out too runny). So for recipes, definitely Jif.

Peter Pan! I prefer chunky but if I'm going to use strawberry preserves, I reach for the creamy.

i lived near a peanut factory; the peanut butter came out the same each lot used a different type jar and the brands were slapped on. don't let name brands and prices fool you.

I'm a big fan of the Peanut Butter & Co. brand here in NYC. I grew up on the big three (Jif/Peter Pan/Skippy) but have developed a flavor for the natural stuff. I like their smooth, white chocolate, and cayenne pepper peanut butters.

Peter Pan creamy is my typical choice. But I agree with billyboy about Peanut Butter & Co., which is easily the best I have ever had.

We buy Bama peanut butter, but I buy all of Bamas products. If I had to choose from one you could get nationally, Jif, creamy only.

Anything that lists only peanuts and possibly salt on the label. Teddy Bear Peanut Butter comes to mind as an inexpensive natural.

I had a couple of really great PB sammiches from PB & Co. They have The Elvis-a grilled PB, banana, honey, and bacon that makes my heart sing and The Heat Is On-spicy PB, pineapple jam and griled chicken. Kinda like a Thai satay. Spicy, sweet, savory all at once. In the words of the immortal Ferris Bueller: "It is so choice! If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up".

I have been buying Publix Chunky recently - seems to have the most "chunks" compared to other brands. I also noticed that in the past few years, peanut butter in general is getting more "dry." Maybe it's my taster, but it seemed to be more buttery and creamy years ago.

I make a mess with those when I mix the oil back in, and my kids don't like the consistency, which is never as smooth as other brands.

Skippy Super Chunky. But, A&P's America's Choice chunky is suprisingly good. I am working my way slowly through a jar of ShopRite Naturall. Supposedly natural has superior health benefits, but if you compare the nutritional info labels, there doesn't seem to be much difference. I can't say I'm wild about the taste or texture of the natural stuff. Charlie

Always been a Skippy guy. Super chunk all the way. Ocasionally like some natural varieties, but Skippy's always in the cabinet.

The PB & Co. is one of the brands that does have to be stirred, so it can get a little messy. I do like supporting a local small business. The guy who runs it has been crazy about PB forever!

Hello All, Grew up with Peter Pan. I like chunky, but the family doesn't. When I was young, my elementary school had a peanut butter sandwich that didn't have jelly with it, but it was so sweet, like it had honey in it. I miss that. Just checked my cupboard, and we have Jiff. The wife must have grown up with Jiff. Nothing like a good peanut butter and banana sandwich with a tomato sandwich and hershey bar. Ahhh Take Care, Fieldthistle

I have to say Kroger's Chunky. I've eaten it since a child, and luckily my husband likes it too. I've never been a big fan of creamy peanut butter. I like the texture the nuts add. Andrea

I always ate Skippy until Costco started carrying Jif. PP only eats creamy and since I don't care we but Jif creamy. If I was to go buy some PB just for me it would be Skippy chunky. MikeS. PS, I keep several jars on hand as part of my emergency food supplies. High in protein and needs no refrigeration.
