February 2010 Glee Club Meeting - CHARLESTON, SC!

What's the head count at this point?  How many people are expected to show up as of today (January 31)?

Count me down and a travelling companion for all three events.  If I can't make it to Sweatman's for some unforeseen reason, I'll certainly make it for the other two events.

That makes 14 confirmed, with Paul and Roz out for Friday night (I think I read correctly that they will arrive around midnight on Friday night). 

The tentative list includes:

ChiTownDiner, who, when last I checked, was still praying for reasonable air frares.
Random ayersian family members and friends (any idea on count - or for which events yet?)
A number of people on the Facebook page, including prior attendees Rick F, tiki, and pcdiva and possible first-time attendees Michael Stern, redtressed, and Biker Jim!  If any of you have made travel plans or can update on the likelihood of your attendance, that would be helpful.

The planned activities are still the same:

Friday evening: Dinner at Sweatman's
Saturday lunch: Gullah Cuisine
Saturday dinner: Bowen's Island Restaurant

Each of these places would like an estimated head count at some point this week, so firming up plans is starting to become important.

The dinner at Bowen's Island will include the gift exchange, and "proper attire" (example) will be encouraged. For examples of what would be appropriate for the gift exchange, please check the original post in this thread for the links to the prior years' events.

There has been chatter discussion on breakfasts and Sunday lunch (82 Queen), but there has been no "official" move to add any additional events or secure seating.  My personal plan is to depart Hooterville on Friday morning and pick up wanderingjew in Jax around 9:30 am and meet up with buffetbuster (and Nancypalooza?) at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House in Savannah.  We will then progress to Charleston to meet the group.  After Charleston, we will head back down through Savannah and hit The Crab Shack on Tybee Island and O'Steen's in St. Augustine for lunch and dinner on Monday.  I will then show wanderingjew some of the local specialties back here in downtown Hooterville for a day or so (which is about how long it takes to see all there is to say here in Hooterville).

I'm looking forward to this years event.

I'll be flying into Raleigh next Wednesday, and I will be heading to the Charlotte area and staying with my friend Julianne and her husband in Lincolnton over night. I plan to stop at Lexington #1 on the way up and on Thursday I'm planning on lunch at Bill Spoon's in Charlotte and still  looking into  good ol' Southern or Soul food  in Charlotte for dinner  before driving back to Raleigh on Thursday night.

I think Mariton is disappointed in not going (we decided the airfare was too expensive), but Emilou is consoled by the fact that she can now sit back and wait for all the invitations for the Valentine's dance at school.   
 
My flight gets in on Thursday afternoon, so if anyone wants to join me for dinner that night, let me know.  Right now, my plans are to hit a soul food place or two and then end the night with The Wreck.

The other night I spoke to RF poster Wabbit ( Traci ), and she told me that she and her boyfriend are seriously considering attending, possibly for all three of the "official" meals. She'll probably let you know one way or another by this evening.

There was someplace on the main list that had cheeseburgers cooked in a way that you got this grilled cheese 'skirt' from where the cheese oozed out of the burger?  And I think I was being a smartass and offered to wear a cheese skirt, and Dawn, because she has a mind like a fine steel trap, remembered that.  ;)

I was just informed that I missed one on the "possible" list - and it is one that is now confirmed to attend.  Buffetbuster shot me a message to tell me that everyone's favorite cousin - Cousin Johnny - will be attending this fine event.

My understanding is that Cousin Johnny will be signing autographs in the host hotel from 3-4 pm on Saturday afternoon.

Actually, he will be autographing banh mi sandwiches.  And then eating them!

As of today Wabbit (Traci) and Mr.Wabbit (Brian) are thinking we can do Saturday only,, as we have had mighty poor weather.. and that means short work.. Yes I have only worked 15 hours from last Thursday until today!! Brian is in same boat,, We roll up the sidewalk here for poor weather .. Now where do I find a Tropical shirt in the middle of yet another snow???

Iwanago and Sundancer will be at this point be undeterminate.  Roz's work schedule could possibly be a issue.  Roz has a new job and just received a promotion and it appears that her training for this position could interfere.
 
I hope this is not the case and if so, It would be the first I would miss in the last seven years.

If you were to do this discussion at the table at Bowen's Island Oyster Roast, you would probably save the place a huge amount of expense... I can't imagine slurping Large Quantities of AYCE Roasted Oysters out of the Shells while discussing  ChiTwnDnrs underthings full of chesse-curds

It is with great regret that I must announce that I'm bowing out of the upcoming festivities. Got hit with a huge car repair bill last month, plus my grandfather in Kentucky is in bad shape, so it looks like I'll be going up there sometime soon instead of to the Low Country for a weekend. I haven't completely ruled out making an appearance Friday or Sunday, but the whole weekend just isn't feasible right now for me.

Can't wait to read about it all, though. :)
