I guess fried cheese curds for WI and I was right!  Although why the accompanying text chose to hold up a nationwide chain like A&W as representative of the state is beyond me.

I think its ironic you'd post this in lighter fare given the out of control obesity rate  in the US today....any of you ever consider what your doing to your offspring by promoting this type of excess.  Anyway I promised myself a while back I'd quit reminding and bringing up the subject...but well I guess I fell of the wagon tonight and got on my old soap box.  I mean really think about what your doing to yourselves!

    Everything is relative.
My thinking is that if you have country fried steak once a year ... do the math, now do it every morning ... then this math is "not so good"

Some of those selections were strange which means the editors were lazy and not all that knowledgeable.

The ice cream looks pretty. Maybe add a few sardines in maple syrup and some rainbow sprinkles!

    In a sugar cone...

Fried brain sandwichs have been down around Evansville forever. Alton Brown did a spot about them.

As I recall, Alton didn't much care for them.

Scrambled Eggs and Calf Brains were a regular breakfast for our weekend menu when I was a youngster. While I like eggs with other things better, I must admit I like the combination.
I tried a Brain Sandwich (pork brain) at the W C HANDY BBQ & BLUES Festival a couple of years ago. I ordered it "Extra-Crispy) meaning 'well-done'. It came out that way and was quite good...with lots of crunch ! When Alton Brown sampled one in his "Feasting on Asphalt" TV series, it looked to be 'medium rare' with liquid gushing out of the 'filling' as he bit into it. He did say it was not his favorite item on the trip.
Calf Brains are no longer available in our area, due to the "Mad-Cow" scare from a few years back.

Most of those really don't look that good to me; although I'm all about the lamb chops, burnt ends, coney dogs and CFS.  I try to limit my CFS intake to the ocassional breakfast treat at a local diner.  CFS with sausage gravy is heavenly food endorsed by the devil himself when it comes to my diet....

It's a shame that Missouri, my home state, had to be represented by a fast food burger.  There are some many other worthwhile and delicious nominees, like St Louis style grilled pork steaks and barbecue ribs...

I agree with Davydd about the writers, beignets don't seem all that bad to me, considering there's such local favorites like french fry and gravy po boys, snoballs with your choice of ice cream or condensed milk topping, doberge cake, or bread pudding with butter whisky sauce just to name a few.....
