He just proved a calorie is a calorie. No matter what diet you undertake you have to eat fewer calories than you burn in order to lose weight. As for cholesterol he just showed that while you are dieting you are burning all you ingest, thus your cholesterol and triglycerides should go down. He didn't mention anything about exercise in the article but I am willing to bet he was doing a helluva lot which probably explained his increase in good HDL cholesterol which should increase with exercise. A pound is 3500 calories so 3500 x 27 = 94,500 calories. 94,500 / 61 days = 1,549 calories per day less than maintenance. So that means he was probably increasing his exercise to burn that extra 749 calories over the 800 less he was eating. That 749 calories is equivalent to jogging 5 mph about 1 hour every day.
