I was looking at a new Kimber Ultra-Carry II with Crimson Trace grips this morning for just under a thousand. That would free up my Combat Commander to become my grandson's -- or to make it's new home in my safe.

Michael, my local gun store owners and employees all carry a Kimber of some flavor or another. All in .45acp I believe. They all swear by them. So I don't think you'd go wrong with one. Not my cup of tea though. I'm not a big 1911 fan.

Oh, I've been a Kimber fan -- and a 1911 fan -- for years, and I finally did buy the Ultra-Carry. Grandson, now at Fort Knox for some training, has already started trying to get it away from me.

Mark, is that RR 9mm a dedicated 9mm only or can you put a different upper on it?

Excellent piece Michael.  If Maryland ever really becomes 'The Free State' I would likely carry that Kimber model.

I have a Beretta 8040, 40 S&W SA.
Last year I picked up a S&W 327NG Night Guard, 357 mag, 8 shot N frame with Tritium site.
Both are very acurate however the Beretta is a bit heavy so I am thinking about selling it or trading it for something lighter.

McDonals was a big win (though only 5-4  )  but already Chicago passed a new very restrictive law (can't have a gun on your porch, etc).

It will still be a long row to hoe for those in oppressed areas like Chicago, NYC and the People's Republic of Maryland (IMO).

I've fired it, and it's a fine piece. But if you're not going to carry concealed I don't see the point in a compact.

.Gov loves to step on law abiding citizens, they know we obey the law(s). They don't step on the criminals, they know they are going to break any law they want. The they have to put them into the legal system, at a big expense to all of us.

When has a law stopped a murder, a kidnapping, a rape? Very rarely, that's when.

Enforce the laws we have now, don't go making up new stuff.

Since the three branches of Govt are designed each for a specific purpose...and The role of the Legislative branch is to MAKE the laws, it would be rather self-defeating for Congress to say, "We have enough laws, We aren't going to create any more new ones"!!! It would be like putting themselves out of a job !!  Hmmm What a novel concept !

There have  been several Home Invasion type robberies in the Louisville area this Summer. Recently a home-owner was awakened late one night when two men broke into his home demanding money. He shot one and shot at the other when the 'perp' fled the scene.  Seems to have a bit of detterent effect, as there haven't been any more of this type of late night breakins in the two weeks since the incident.  BTW  No Charges filed against the homeowner.

I just picked up a Kimber Ultra Carry from Vance Outdoor. It is an excellent .45 as good as any I have owned. I still have an AMT and a Detonics....Russ

Strange you said that. I just went to Vance after my post to buy the Saiga 12 and a Walther 22 pistol that was on sale for my 15 year old son. I was 1st inline as they served 17 and my number was 18. I waited with my wife for 45 minutes while salesman left the counter or talked to there buddies. Numbers 19 thru 21 left there ticket on the counter. I gave up and handed my ticket to the manager at the front and told him I was buying two guns but nobody would take my money. He told me to have a nice night. I would have spent over $1200 with ammo and accessorys. I guess I will buy them on the internet and have them shipped to an ffl...Russ

The longest I've had to wait was an hour and a half. And Rich Vance is a friend of mine.

Have you tried the New Albany range and shop, or the Powder Room in Powell or Black Wing west of Delaware?

Russ, I've shot the Saiga 12 several times. My Son IL has 1, It is a good solid semi-auto based on the AK platform. You can get 20+ round drums for them too.

I go to the Powder Room alot. Vance's needs to fix its service. I sent them an email and Tom Vance replied back. His response sounded like he gets that complaint alot. I doubt it did any good. But I will see this afternoon or tommorow. He should stand in a corner one day and watch customers give up and leave. If he loses two sales a day because of it at $450 each X 2 = $900 X 6 days a week thats $5400 X 52 weeks = $280,800 per year X 2 locations = $561,600. I bet alot of people never return after that type of service. Great Gun Show at the Westland Mall today and tommorow on broad st...Russ

Ok I went back to Vances on Saturday. I was wrong Tom Vance took my email serious. The minute I asked about the Saiga they asked if I was the one who sent the email. I told them I was and he proceeded to show me the firearms I requested. We talked about customer service while handling guns. I also noticed an abundance of additional staff and I have never heard the numbers yelled out so loud. I ended up purchasing three more guns for the collection. The Saiga 12, Walther P22 Pistol, and a Walther G22 Rifle.  The pistol and rifle are for my son and 22 are alot cheaper to shoot. The G22 can be converted to left hand for my son. I ordered a couple drum mags for the Saiga online and some other upgrades. We took the P22 and my Kimber 45 to the range. My son has never shot a Pistol and after 1 clip and a little instruction he kicked my azz with the P22 and then proceeded to out shoot me with the 45. Anyway Vances is off my chit list and I hope they keep up the good service...Russ

I'm pleased that you had a positive experience at Vance's. I do a lot of business there. I have most of my test guns sent through them. and I buy most stuff there. They usually have at least eight sales people working the counter, but I can't count the times I've ended up with a more than 20-number wait despite all the salespeople.

The Second Amendment Foundation, the same group that spearheaded the big McDonald win in Chicago has filed suit against Maryland in its denial of handgun permits.

Similar suits were filed in North Carolina and New York, but I thought it would be several years before anything would happen here in the Peoples Republic of Maryland.

I was extremely surprised and happy to read this news yesterday.  Though it will be a lengthy battle, perhaps Maryland is due to truly become The Free State.

"SAF SUES IN MARYLAND OVER HANDGUN PERMIT DENIAL
For Immediate Release:   7/29/2010
BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation and a Baltimore County, MD man today sued Maryland authorities in federal court because the man’s handgun permit renewal was turned down on the grounds that he could not demonstrate “a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger.”"

Shoots great. I have always loved 1911s and the Detonics is really the first compact one. Only a 6 shot mag. Considering the short sight distance it is very accurate. I always regretted selling mine back in 82. It replaces the first pistol I ever bought...Russ

Recently picked up this H & R Pardner Pump. I was leaning toward the 7-shot Remington 870, but for $160 lightly used, I figured I couldn't go wrong with this 5+1 pumpgun.

Those are good shotguns. Does yours have a synthetic stock? What do you plan to use it for?
