I'm not sure why though other than it's from my town, it's big and it is the epitome of what I would want.

It's a fine pistol, but you'll need suspenders to hold up your britches if you ever want to strap one of those on your belt. Better yet, get one of those concealed-carry wheelbarrows.

Ha. You bet. Was it them or another who made similar in .50 cal? I believe it only holds six rounds...

I knew the Black Talons had come back called something else, so know I know, Ranger. I still have 2 boxes of BTs in .357 magnum. It's what my revolvers are fed at home.

Anyone else notice how much ammo prices have been jumping? WOW!

hey guns are related to roadfood because restaurant owners get robbed in back alleys going to their car or at counterpoint, life is a vicious circle.

I was lost in Round Rock and stopped at Bushie's house to ask for directions, when I saw him in his back yard.

Bushie happily showed me where to go.

I just picked up some Ranger ammo yesterday to Chronograph against Speer Gold Dot.

I go in with a couple of LEO's and buy 15,000 rounds of custom, match grade ammunition, from a manufacturer via a Department letter head, when necessary. I reloaded all of my own ammunition for many years but with this deal it doesn’t cost me anymore and takes up zero of my time.

Guys, I own no handguns, and frankly, don’t want to; BUT, I’m a bird hunter and a sucker for Browning shotguns, especially over and unders. Love sporting clays, skeet and trap.

Still have some Browning rifles, too, although I haven’t hunted big game in a while…..

I'm in the same mind set as Sundanger (sorry but I love that wrong way of your name) and am selling almost all my weapons. I have two daughters, who are crack shots (my wife is not a happy camper about that) but only want their fav weapons (youngest wants the Colt 1911a1 and the oldest wants the Remington 11-87SP...great wing shot).

I hate to see many years of collecting go away but I must face reality.

I'm NC lifetime sportsman and a NRA lifetime memeber...God gave me daughters...and I am MOST thankful for it but the weapons go away.

A word of caution regarding personal protection ammo for your carry, truck, or nightstand guns. In the event you ever had to use it, you'd be better off with a good civilian pp cartridge, like Gold Dot or Hydra Shock. A zealous prosecutor could, if inclined, have a field day if you had fired an LEO load.

Could you document that please? I can find no reference to anyone being more aggressively prosecuted due to the ammunition being used.

An excerpt from a Firearms Tactical Institute publication in 1998 indicates tha distributors sell supposed LEO only ammunition to the civilian market.

http://www.firearmstactical.com/ammo_data/ammodata.htm

(Part III lists data for several cartridges which have been discontinued, such as the Winchester Black Talon, .38 Special 147 grain cartridges, and several others. We're well aware that many of you might have some of this discontinued ammunition and this information is of value to you. Also, we expect to see a flood of law enforcement only Winchester Ranger SXT [the law enforcement only version of Black Talon] on the civilian market as law enforcement agencies opt to purchase the newer Ranger Talon and distributors sell off their stocks of unwanted Ranger SXT ammunition to the civilian market. Therefore, if you do not see a cartridge listed in Part I, this doesn't mean that we haven't published data for it in the following sections.)

I bought some Ranger SXT last week to compare against Speer Gold Dot through Chronograph testing, the retailer did not ask for LEO ID.

Thank you,

John

Whatever type of ammunition you use for personal protection do not, under any circumstances, use reloads. Prosecutors are much more likely to consider charges if a shooter uses "ammunition made especially to kill and not wound." You might win in court, but you'll have had the opportunity to spend every dime you have defending yourself. Prosecutors have made that argument in seeking indictments against people who use home-rolled ammo, and even purchased reloads. And, as they say, you can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, so think how much easier it is to get one to indict an actual person who put a bullet into a miscreant -- I mean a fellow wonderful human being who made a silly mistake. Stick with commercial stuff. Oh, and using your own is also a good fodder for civil suits by shootees and shootees' families.

Well come on down! I no longer have to go to a range to shoot. Set up a decent safe place here on our ranch. When our sons(late 20's) come to visit, they find time to unlock the gun cabinet and have a little fun.

Federal markets their hydra-shocks as "Personal Defense Ammo" thats what my carry/house guns are fed when not at the range.

I bought 1,000 rounds of Wolf 230grn ball ammo today for 210 + tax. A pretty good price in todays market. That should give me some good practice time on the new XD.

Had one back then and sold it when prices went through the roof. Dirty Haryy movies made me a nice chunk of change. The handgun would drop a whitetail in two steps.

I got out to the range again Saturday, I'm liking my new pistol more and more. The shop where I bought it at had an open house today, free food and soft drinks! We got to see the indoor range they're building, SWEET!

If it's a good price, go for it. Otherwise, revolvers are becoming passe, just like the English long bow.

CSD,

This is the only thing I can find on the net right now:

Of course you do not need it, the only questions is "Do you want it?" Of course, LOL.

All Wisconsin gun shops and FFL's charge and $8 is a bargain. Some charge as high as $24.
