I came into a bit of inheritance this month so I bought 2 new firearms, an XD in 9mm and a Marlin camp 9 which is a 9mm carbine. Can you tell I like the 9? The ammo is still almost reasonable and you can get some good personal defense ammo. The XD holds 16+1 and the Marlin you can get 30rnd mags for.

It looks like with a small mod to the XD mags the Marlin can use those. It would be great to be able to use the same mag in both.

The XD is very accurate and great to shoot. The Marlin is going to take some work with the sights.

With a slight mod the XD mags will work in the camp9. I'm in the process of modding all my XD mags. It is really nice to be able to use the same mag in both firearms.

I went to a large gunshow held near Dulles airport Friday afternoon and enjoyed looking at all the variety of weapons. They had all sorts of edged weapons and firearms. Plus they had a lot of miscellanious stuff, scopes, magazines, slings, cases...

Ammo, they had tons of ammo literally tons of it. I helped ease the load on the floor by buying a bunch for myself. I bought 9mm, .45auto and 7.62x39.

Well I got my 10/22 tuned in today, this is at 50 yards ...Not bad groups

It was time to rotate the ammunition yesterday, out with the old, in with the new 147 grain Gold Dots.

I picked up 500 rounds of gold dots for my .45 at the gun show last weekend. Shot some last night and they are nice.

The Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel has always been my ammo of choice for 38+p and .357. I use Speer Gold Dot 44sp and 44mag too.. Never had a complaint with Speer products.

I've pretty much settled on the Speer GD as our HD round.

I've not been able to do much shooting this summer, started off with PP being sick and she is still not a 100%. I'm having to do more at home to pick up her side of things. The last 2 or 3 weeks i've had a bit more time but the darn weather has been so bad, HOT and humid I haven't like being outside for long.

I was never much into hunting though I have family members who are ... but I have enjoyed shooting and collecting.

In the late 1980’s I decided I wasn’t likely to shoot as much anymore and got rid of pretty much all of my firearms. At the time, I told myself I was going to take the proceeds and purchase just a few modern guns ... one good tactical shotgun ... a combat rifle (possibly the H&K 91) ... and another good, high capacity semi-auto pistol ... alas I never got around to re-purchasing.

With the exception of a few misc other pieces, here’s what I had ...

4 Winchester Model 101 shotguns - over and under ... two 12’s (a field and a skeet), a 28 and a 20. The 12ga Field was the last shotgun I owned ... a really beautiful gun ... one I wish I'd kept.

Fox Sterlingworth (mid 1920’s) - 12ga - side-by-side ... another beautiful shotgun.

Remington 1100 - 12 ga ... this is the one I kept ready for “home defense” chambered with 3” magnum slug.

Remington 1100 - .410

WesternField 12 gauge pump (an old Montgomery Ward gun)

Remington 760 pump - .30-06

Remington 742 autoloader - .270

“Tanker” Garand ... .30-06 ... short in size, had a convex metal butt plate and was absolutely brutal to fire.

Mauser 98k - .30-06 ... with flash suppressor and bayonet

Winchester Model 94 lever action - .30wcf

Iver Johnson M1 carbine - .30 cal ... easily the “funnest” gun to shoot that I owned .... and shot pretty well as long as I kept the feed ramp polished and used good ammo.
A great “defensive” weapon too ... very controlable (yup,“gun control”). I may get another one some day.

Armalite AR-7 - .22 ... this is the one that breaks down and fits into it’s floating buttstock. I still own this one.

For pistols ...

1911 Colt - .45 ACP ... intended to add an extended barrel and get it magnaported but never did before I sold it.

Colt Commando .38 ... 4” barrel - parkerized

Colt 32-20 Police Positive Special w/ 6” barrel

S&W Police Special ... .38 w/ 4” barrel ... still have this one.

Walther P-38 - 9mm ... had gotten a bit loose but still fired well

Colt Woodsman semi-auto - .22 ... this was the ultimate plinkin' around gun ... what a great pistol ... another one I should have kept.

BTW - are you looking for the manual for that Armalite AR-180 that’s been sitting in your sock drawer - or your wife’s Franchi SPAS-12 (and quite a few others) ... came upon this webpage with many free manuals while looking for the maunual for my AR-7 a while back ... http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm

Excellent collection over the years. Looks like the only piece that's missing is the "phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range."

Other than a crappy Lorcin 9mm that malfunctioned almost every other round, I've always regretted every firearm I got rid off.

Yeah, in hindsight I should have held on to a few favorites. Now I don't even have a proper shotgun or rifle! ... just a few pistols and a couple long .22's.

Thanks Oneiron. If it's the 4" blue version, I have the identical 44mag version of the S&W 29 Mountain gun. They look like kissing cousins.

CSD, I love my older mod 66 with the 4" barrel. I'm now looking for a 2.5 inch version of that revolvfer for some ccw work.

I picked up a really nice looking Marlin model 336 in 30-30 yesterday, it has some lovely walnut on it. That and I nust love lever actions.

Mike, best of luck with your new Marlin. For ccw, S&W has a new light weight .357, seven shot, 2.5." The 386 ScS weighs in at 21oz. The problem is price and availability. Last week, I ran into a midwest Smith & Wesson rep at a Gander Mountain store in Wisconsin. The word on the street is that the cost of ammo is going to rise 27% in the next few months. He said start stocking up now.

I tried to trade a guy at last weekends gun show my AR-15 even up for one of these, no luck.

I know folks that have no guns and some that have more guns then your local gun shop. I bought my first real gun when I moved to CA. After going to a party where the discussion turned to guns and everyone but I claimed to own several guns I bought my first, a 1911.

Thanks for the heads up on the ammo CSD. I've been meaning to put in an order and now would seem to be a great time.

If I didn't live in the People's Republic of Maryland (where residents of Montgomery County and some other locales can't even have ammo shipped to them) and were actually able to get a carry permit, I'd tote my Taurus 617, a 7-shot .357 that is very comfortable when I'm able to walk around with it.

Any reason ammo prices are going up? I think they already went up some in CA.n I went to the gun show in OC CA last weekend and theprices I saw "seemed" higher.

What do you pay for Winchester 55Gr 223. I used to be able to get it for under $120 for 500 rounds but didn't even see it at the show this year. They had Wolf for $117 for 500 rounds.

The war overseas has increased the demand for ammo. A shortage of copper, lead, and brass has created a rise in the price of these materials used in ammo manufacturing.

China and India are sucking up a lot of raw materials; copper, lead and oil being a big part of those materials.

I got a great deal on an old (1969) Ruger 10/22 last Saturday. I stopped at a pawn shop a few miles from home. I'd heard from a friend that he sometimes got some pretty good deals on firearms at the pawn shops over there. There is 3 of them close by each other.

I saw this 10/22 and noticed it had a metal buttplate and a nice walnut stock along with a 3x7 scope. It was pretty dusty outside and pretty cruddy inside. It cleaned up nicely though. It needs a new recoil return spring and guide and a new recoil buffer pin. About 20 bucks in parts.

I was looking at my favorite .22lr website Sunday night and found that Ruger has a web page that will give you a fairly good idea of when a gun was made by serial #. That is www.rimfirecentral.com BTW for the .22 site.

I've already been offered 250 for this rifle, I paid 106 with tax. Nope, not gonna sell it.
