Firemen's field days (or carnivals)

I am wondering how different the food is that can be purchased at Firemen's field days or carnivals in different sections of the country. We went to one in the Baltimore area earlier this week and were really surprised and not that happy with the food sold there.

In central New York,we always look forward to the barbeque chicken plates (Cornell style) and the hot sausage and pepper sandwiches and fresh corn on the cob. None of these were offered at the carnival we went to the other evening. For platters, we had our choice of fried chicken (very good) or fried shrimp (very dreadful). They also sold crabcake sandwiches, chicken salad platters, and hamburgers. The only other food stands which we saw offered french fries, one that had cotton candy and candy apples, and a stand that sold pizza slices. All in all, it was a real disappointment to us but we do realize that it was for a wonderful cause.

What do you find to eat at these affairs in your section of the country?
