Firing up the grill, FINALLY Tue, 02/28/06 3:38 PM (permalink)
I've been sick over the winter and not been able to grill any, that's changing tonight. I have marinated a pound of thin breast fillets in jerk seasonings and a pound in a Chinese rib marinade. Plan to grill them a little later on tonight over some hickory and see how they turn out. I've not used the rib marinade with chicken before so it could be interesting tonight.

I'll let you guys know how they turn out.

Still a little nippy in DC for grilling. But, then, hey, my neighbor was grilling on New Year's Eve, so why shouldn't I?

I've been firing up smokey joe for steaks on the front porch about once a week here in Central NY. I smoked ten pounds of picnic roast on the big weber for super bowl pulled pork sandwiches. No snow that day, but it was cold!

        Cary, NC?

It's going to be sixty five here in the Charlotte area today...Snow doesn't come here for another few weeks and is gone in a few days. Grill year round in NC.

I believe in my original post I stated I had been sick all winter. And no, it wasn't a cold. I nearly lost part of a foot with 2 cases of staph. Otherwise I would have been grilling pretty much the whole winter.

Sorry you've been under the weather this winter.

We've been healthy but completely unable to start a fire outside this year thanks to our "burn ban" - we're in parched western-central Texas and one stray spark could mean disaster. :-( I'm hoping that we get a bit of rain this week, because I'm dying for a good steak cooked over mesquite this weekend.

We've had a pretty mild winter here and I've been able to grill several times. Just had ribeye steaks for dinner tonight along with some catfish fillets.

Sitting in my office here about and hour ago, with the window open, my next door neighbors just took steaks off their grill, and it looked like they also did some shish-ka-bobs also.. No, I was NOT peeking out the window!
(yeah, right).. The smell was wafting all over in my window, and over the top of my house, and when I took the dog out, he just stood there, his little nose twitching away, taking in the odor.. YUM!
It's about 50 here and had a low of 29 last night, but with the sun out, it felt good not to be bundled up anymore.

Thanks for the kind comments from you guys. I post up here but have not really developed any close "Foodie buddies". It has been rough on our family but I am bouncing back.

The jerked chicken can out great, the chinese rib style chicken had no taste, oh well you have to try new things I guess. May try something different this week, considering a jerk, smoked fish, maybe flounder.

                        Dennis,
We are glad to hear that you are on the recovery road...and it sounds like you are eating better also !!
I've been spoiled this winter with a bunch of short roadtrips to enjoy the cooking efforts of others! But the Brinkman and the grill will be in operation when time permits.

Stay healthy and keep those foodie reports coming in, please.

Grilled out Saturday and Sunday (the weather was beautiful). I love to hear people say grilling out instead of barbequing. Barbeque is not the same as grilling. You can grill something and not put barbeque sauce on it. Anyway, I grilled hamburgers Sat. evening and steak kabobs Sun. evening. They were both delicious.

Went to Mammoth Lakes, CA ski area this last weekend. Had the grill going outside with burgers on it while it was snowing. Burgers did great----beer stayed cold outside------and I impressed my friends who said I couldn't cook in the snow!

I tried some of the bulk mesquite chunks with the charcoal last weekend. Nice!

I can't easily procure the mesquite logs or pecan wood here in the East like we had in AZ.

Grilled some tasty ribeyes and Taters.

This weekend might not be as favorable... I like it at least 55 degrees when I fire up the grill.

I never have to dust my grill off I use it all winter. I have been out charring meat during a blizard my neighbors think I am nuts but I care not.
