I had a 14oz. prime NY strip at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Dallas last night. It was $38.00 and, delicious. The larger cuts and the filet's were quite a bit more. And, it was, alacarte. All the (also delicious) sides were $5-8 each. Happily for me, I was a guest of a vendor. As a sidenote, I also had two glasses of the 2004 "Talley" Pinot Noir. ($22.00 per glass)

I'm not surprised, everything else food related is going up. Chicken has gone up at least 20 cents a lb around here. Although a local chain has Purdue chicken at 40% off this week. I bought about 20 lbs and vacum sealed it. MikeS.

We noted that the Burger we like to buy in 4 lb chunks at Costco jumped from $2.19 to $2.49 a lb last week. It may not be "prime" but it represents an increase that will affect a lot of people.

U are not only seeing the Food its self prices going up; but also the added price of fuel to move the product. I placed a order for 50 cases of Ribs and was quoted a price which I accepted. Was called and said they had to go up 2c. per pound due to shipping.

The price of beef going up might be linked to the fact that we are using so much of our corn to make ethanol. Corn that is being grown with the help of more chemicals (the evidence is in the ditch), farm vehicles, semis to bus it around the country, and of course, farm subsidies. I just can't help but wonder if the government is fooling us with this "ethanol is good" campaign. I also wonder what would happen if we all just drove 20% less.

http://www.elgaucho.com/elgaucho/_seattle/_menus/index.htm Speaking of exploding prices for prime beef. The El Gaucho is one of the high end steakhouses in Seattle. Click on the link and download the dinner menu. The ala carte prices for the steaks now exceed the annual budget for most countries south of the G-7. It is a great steakhouse experience, in my opinion, but I haven't been there in about two years and with those prices, it may be a couple more.

And we still are paying farmers NOT to grow corn. There are 3 farms here in SE Indiana that are sitting the corn season out, cause good old uncle sam is subsidizing them NOT to grow corn. Definately S.N.A.F.U.
