First 'Stab-Proof' Knife to Go on Sale

First 'Stab-Proof' Knife to Go on Sale in the U.K. The first "anti-stab" knife is set to hit store shelves in the U.K., designed to work as normal in the kitchen but ineffective as a weapon. The knife has a rounded edge instead of a point and will snag on clothing and skin to make it more difficult to stab someone. It was invented by industrial designer John Cornock, who was inspired by a documentary in which doctors advocated banning traditional knives. Cornock, 42, from Swindon. England, said that the knife will cut vegetables, but will make it almost impossible to stab someone to death and will reduce the risk of accidental injuries. "It can never be a totally safe knife, but the idea is you can’t inflict a fatal wound," he said. "Nobody could just grab one out of the kitchen drawer and kill someone." Click here for more on this story from the Times of London.

That is as stupid an idea as banning guns. Those bent on mayhem will always find a weapon, and those who are not won't use a weapon except in self defense.

Perhaps a good idea for prison kitchens or in house rehab centers but although you can't stab it looks like you could still draw it across the throat and achieve the same end.

A ham carver or serrated bread slicer is essentially the same thing with a rounded end. Both are just as sharp as a chef's knife of the same size. Both can hack right down to a bone or trachea in a swipe. I can't stab anyone with my Chinese or meat cleavers either. That top chef's knife in the picture looks like it could easily dispatch a victim anyway

I don't understand, so let me get this straight....... a knife was invented that cannot stab anyone but you can still slice em and dice em. So what is the point of this knife? Oh wait the knife does not have a point, nor does this invention. Anyone want to invest in my idea for Dehydrated water?

I just did a little follow-up and this site provides much more information. Some of it seemed to me to be unintentionally funny: geared very much toward the nanny state!
