First night out with cart Sat, 03/31/12 2:37 AM (permalink)
Well today was my first night out, finally got my cart this morning and decided to go test it out.
Posted up on the exit (of the parking lot) of a very popular grocery store, sold a whopping one dog in the two hours I was there haha.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring more success. I'll be standing by the entrance to a popular thrift store from open till close. Wish me luck!

That'd be nice, I'd appreciate it! I definitely wouldn't mind some tips and pointers from a pro :)
I'll be by the Goodwill on 67th and Peoria Ave. My umbrella hasn't came in yet, so I'll be the umbrella-less cart.

Welcome to the biz...Grocery stores are hard to sell at because most people already have a lunch/dinner planned to prepare in mind.  But this doesn't mean to quit, just keep it up but scout other potential places where you may be able to sell.  Good Luck.   DD

Ive found out that the best time to catch clients are very early. I do alot between 7am to 10am (students / truckers / people going to work)
If you have a comunity collage, try there :)

Try not to be discouraged, you'll be fine, but contrary to what so many think, now is when the work starts.

Well I'm back from my second day, went better than last night that's for sure.

I was set up at Goodwill - a thrift store, I talked to a manager several days ago that said I would be allowed to be on the side of the store. So I went ahead and set up today, after selling about 4 or 5 dogs (there was a steady flow of people) we got kicked out by a different manager. We moved out into the parking lot, sold one dog in the two hours that we were there and spend the rest of the day looking for a new spot.

The few customers that we had enjoyed our dogs so I'm really happy :) But does anyone have any ideas as to where I could set up now. Seems like all the bigger stores have really strict regulations concerning hot dog stands.

Again, thanks for all the support guys

Found an awesome night time spot, cleared a 100 in just over 3 hours

Booked an event two weeks from now, I'm starting to love this

Congrats. Just stick with it.  Once people know you are out and that you have great product and customer service they will return.  You should still try to find an alternate spot just in case you are asked to leave.  It makes things so much easier when you have the property owners permission.  DD

mmgolebi, maybe 1 night you would want to hit up the local ER hospital. Ive gotten good numbers here, no hot food in most ER late night.

How do you guys just set up anywhere? I mean in my area we have to notify the health dept. of any changes in selling location in advance...

The ER at St. Joseph's Hospital downtown is Phoenix's busiest ER.
