I found that 5 guys now has a location in Herndon, Va. We ate there 2 weeks ago and even PP liked it. It's on Elden near the K-mart.

Isn't everything in Herndon on Elden near the K-Mart?

I've spent a lot of time in Reston/Herndon in the last 15 years. My favorite place is Charcoal Kabob. A plate of chicken kebobs, curried veggies, and naan fresh off the bricks sounds pretty good. However, I will have to try 5 Guys as it is listed in Roadfood!

Don't forget Hard Times Cafe (also near the KMart) when in Herndon. They make an excellent open flame grilled burger, in addition to their various chili styles. I also love their atmosphere.

p.s. I also think Five Guys has a location right on the south Reston/Herndon border in the Fox Mill Shopping Ctr--or at least they used to?

        To all,

We moved twelve years ago from where the first "Five Guys's" was in Alexandria, Va. It's still there. We moved to Annapolis and took the time to go to the original location. So the new place in Annapolis is open and we have tried it several times. I guess that this is now a chain. However they seem to be keeping the people that made it great in the first place. The restaurant in Annapolis is really great. In a nondiscript little strip plaza they still provide. I was worried that the food would be diluted by the expansion but that does not seem to be the case. The fries are great but most importantly the burgers are still as I remember them at the original location. I hope that they continue in their commitment to quality.

BB, where is the Annapolis location? They are everywhere now. AT least 3 locs in Baltimore area due to open in next few weeks. But the grease smell just sticks to you.

There is actually a 5 Guys in Warrenton, VA. Its as good as the one in Alexandria, but does not have atmosphere(but has a LOT better parking)

Five Guys is expanding all up and down the mid-Atlantic, with stores in Connecticut, New York and North Carolina opening soon. Let's hope the quality doesn't get too watered down...

It is on Forest Drive at the corner of Cherry Grove. There is a Citgo and a CVS on the corner. They are located with a Lido's Pizza and a Chinese Restaurant called the "Red Parrot", which is really good as well.

We have one now opened in Owings Mills on Reisterstown Rd, now in the same strip mall where the Peruvian Fire Roasted Chicken joint, Que Rico, is located. Which by the way has great chicken!

Five Guys reminds me alot of Redamak's in New Buffalo Michigan, simple menu. Atmosphere is better at R's though.

They also have a Five Guys downtown at the Inner Harbor in the Light Street Pavilion I just saw one today in Staunton, VA while heading to Mrs. Rowes.

I'm afraid that Five Guys is really going corporate.
On their website, they talk about business opportunities...meaning franchising.

It'll be rotten if Five Guys goes bad because of it.

                        Hello All,
Here in Harrisonburg, Va., we are going to be getting a 5 guys.
Expect the food to be great at first, then, who knows?
But many are waiting for it to open.
Should this not be in the new fast food section of this site?
                        Take Care,

It's really a roadfood place, that is quickly becoming a chain.
It does serve fast food, but not like a BK or Mickey D's.

If fast food, simply means you order and get your food all at once, then there are many roadfood places that will get tagged with being fast food.

At Five Guys, they cook to order. The burgers aren't premade and then wrapped waiting for you to order it, like a big mac is at McD's.

I was back at the 5Guys in Herndon a couple weeks ago and they refused to cook our burgers anyway but WELL done. They were dry and terribly disapointing. I don't know if it was the manager or if policy has changed.

They lost a couple stars in my book.

unfortunately, this establishment is both franchised and fast food, and ergo this thead belongs in the fast food forum.

I wish the fast food forum was renamed/restyled more appropriately, but it isn't.

I'd agree and would have no problem with it, except there is one small problem -- 5 Guys is not fast. I arrived there today at 12:45 - by 1pm I was ordering, and by 1:10 I was sitting down and eating. I've eaten quicker at a sit down restaurant. not that I mind, but 5 guys ain't fast food when on a Friday afternoon at lunch ...

First off this thread is PRE fast food forum and secondly I would have put it here anyways because I was recommending it as a good place to eat in DC.
                                          Now I'm not so sure.

I know, MikeSH, but there are several threads that were elsewhere that were moved to the FFF forum by the admins. In fact, the vast majoity of the threads in the FFF forum were created elsewhere.

So the fact that the thread is PRE-FFF is, and I don't mean this negatively, sorta irrelevant....

I'll also say that I for one am NOT asking for this thread to be moved

Some people here talk more about where a thread should be placed and what is or isn't Fast Food than they talk about roadfood. They are the ones acting holier than thou about there roadfood choices, but then all they do is complain and condemn others for their views and ideas. Can't we all just get along?

I was just about to ask the same thing.

Is this the same at all of them? I only stopped at one once on my way through VA. The only reason we even ate there is because it looked like the type of place that you just had to try once you saw it.

Had a single with bacon and their cajun fries on Saturday night from their Annapolis location. Much better than your typical FF burger, or casual chain restaurant, but the burger was thrown together and kind of beat up, and the "handformed" patty was on the small side and thin. Lots of good crispy bacon though. Guess I'll have to go for the double next trip. It was nice seeing the greasy brown bags come in the door though.

There's at least two FGs in Richmond now--ate at the Midlothian one Saturday night, was impressed enough to add to the existing review.

They're taking over in the entire MD-DC-VA area. I was just in Charlottesville and they have one in the Barracks Road S/C and are working on another on the Downtown Mall.

When I was at UVA, we cheered the opening of the first McDonalds in town.

it will be interesting, as the new locations open, to see if they will keep the quality up.
