Thanks. That'll be close to me although my current local favorites are Jake's and Zac's for fresh burgers. We'll have to see how they compare. I understand the fries are fresh, hand cut and good.

Youse guys keep us posted. I usually stop at the Charcoal Pit or Jimmy John's when I go thru the area. May need to check it out if it's any good.

As discussed in other threads on this board, the Virginia locations are wildly inconsistent. Having eaten there for over ten years, I would not call them the best ever. But I do like the fries.

So, umm, Stantheman, this is your Five Guys? Patrons get a free meal if they mention Roadfood?

Turns out there is one already in Hockessin, Delaware. Went there today with co-workers and have to say it's an excellent burger and excellent fries. Consensus is that it is as good or a little better than Jake's. The sesame roll is better. (Jake's uses the cheapest hamburger roll made.) The new PA one will be closer to home. Not flame broiled like the Charcoal Pit but much better tasting.

Mind you, I have an ethical dilemma about eating in chains but believe I can make an exception once in a while when they get it right- fresh ground beef and fresh potatoes and free peanuts.

Five Guys has also expanded into the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. There was a recent thread on Chowhound where most of the posters were fairly negative about it.

Having eaten at and enjoyed the original location, that was disappointing to read.

    Hi Stantheman,

I missed the function so pay no attention to my first reply:

I look forward to trying your burgers, and Glen Mills is not far away.

    As far as my favorites:

Hardees has a real good burger, but the closest is Dover, DE.

    I like Pudgis too.

I am sure yours are good.

    Good Luck,

    Dave

Can someone settle a bet for me? The argument is: what cut of meat does five guys use for their burgers? I say sirloin, my brother says chuck.

A case of beer (Yuengling) is riding on the outcome.

    Or do we both loose?

Considering the fact that they say they use "Fresh Ground Beef" it's probably a good bet that they don't use sirloin or chuck. Why not contact them and ask?

I've only been in to a five guys a couple of times, (my brother a lot more times) and on two occasions I asked the lady behind the counter (they were Latino both times), they had no idea what I was talking about.

"They looked at me like I had lobsters coming out of my ears!" A Christmas Story.

Never frozen mediocre beef is NOT better then once frozen quality meat--it looks good on the ad copy though.

Hey, get over it ............fast food rules on these boards. I suspect that many of these posters do not even know what a real Roadfood restaurant is.

No i WONT get over it!!!---I'm not interested in whether this is a chain or not---hell, i rat in chains---what i DO object to is the fact that this is a BLATENT AD!!!! Do you REALLY think this clown would be posting this if he did not MANAGE this place!!!??? This forum is NOT here to provide free advertising for someones business!!! Customer reccomendations--from folks that have nothing to gain--are fine--but THIS is NOT a customer reccomendation!!! This is an AD and it should be treated as such regardless of the product----and as for chains "Ruling" on "these" forums---i wonder if YOU have any idea what Roadfood is!??---SEND Stantheman a BILL for his ad space!

I've never been to Five guys so y'all have to tell me. Is it a franchise but not fast food.......or is it franchise -fast food. Then I can decide whether to move it or not. Since Waffle House and and some others are franchised and not fast food.....and some are fast food and not chains.....Oh God I've confused myself now....." />

I always sucked at these word problems on standardized tests

And yeah, it's an ad, BUT it's not a lone ad with no followup etc, so it's kind of in the gray area of Roadfood etiquette. Stan......how about enlightening us a bit more by answering whether it's sirloin or chuck or what and so on and so forth , some of the offerings on the menu, what makes it different from eating at Macky D's or similar and so on and so forth.(I feel like Kingette Solomon , trying to be wise here)

Five Guys makes unreal fries cooked in peanut oil, served in a paper cup. I quit eating at Waffle House because i heard it's a franchise.

Have a question for you..............does Five Guys fit this description?

it is small and local, reflecting the food tastes of its owners and of the community in which they live. In other words, it is a Roadfood kind of place!

    I do not think so!

Whether it is a chain or an ad, am I the only one who thinks that if nearly a year elapses from a post, it isn't all that important and we don't need to crucify Stan? Shouldn't there be some statute of limitations on berating someone?

Alright guys, let me settle all the bets and confusion. First, if you want to crucify me, thats fine. I am the general manager of the Glen Mills location. Most of the Five Guys outside of VA are franchises but well run franchises. Not McDonald run or anything like that. My owner puts in a lot of time and money into the restaurant. Second, five guys puts money and time into all restaurants. We have a secret shopper 2 times a week. Beef is 80/20, fresh ground, chuck/sirloin???/ Bottom line: Five Guys is great, burgers are fresh and the fries are worth the trip themselves. Stop by the store and ask for me and I will not only give you lunch but i'll show you around the store!

That being the case -- and I agree with your decision in this matter entirely -- why have threads on In-and-Out Burger (http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=1647) been moved to the FFF forum? Should not these threads then be moved back to the Hamburger forum?
