Just returned from my first experience at one of MANY "Five Guys", that have opened in Atlanta, and it's 'burbs.
So far, a thumbs-up!

I was surprised for a chain, even a small one (but growing!!!), how sparse the menu is. However, that could be a strong point, in some ways. Far better to do what you do right, than to do a lot of things poorly.
Anyway, it was late, and there were only one other couple dining. My order was to go, and it was taken quickly, and on the grill immediately. I can see, the somewhat late hours (10pm) and this location, right next to a subway station is going to be interesting.
While I was waiting for my order, and sitting facing the door and register (old law enforcement habit), I observed something interesting. An obvious street person came in, and shuffled up to the register. The young girl bent over, and the man whispered something to her, and she quickly shook her head no. He leaned over again, and she again did the same. A third time, and she asked the cook to come over. He talked to the man for a minute or so, and returned to the grill, where he put several patties on. The man took two one dollars bills, and put them in the tip jar, and sat down.
I figure the man asked for some food, and was told no. But the cook decided to help the guy out, and he in return gave them the couple bucks he had. WHATEVER. Just an observation of urban realities and business.
As for the food: The basic, no frills brown paper bag, was already showing grease stains

, by the time I walked out with my order. The fries were the cajun style, and there were as many out of the styrofoam serving cup, as inside. A hallmark, IIRC, of the chain.
The fries were seasoned as cajun would lead you to believe, and they were tasty. My burger was ordered with mustard, onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms. It was a hefty sucker, and had a home-cooked feel to it. Very good! So much so, I cheated my schedule, and had another the next night!
The peanuts while you wait is a nice touch. Overall, the place is red, white, and damn spartan. I wonder if plain bags and tinfoil for wrappers, and styrofoam cups for the fries, all sans any logo, helps the bottom line

Maybe it will counter-act, the free food walking out the door at this location!!!
Overall, I liked the burgers a lot. Not cheap, but far better than the average Micky D's or Burger King. Interesting to see how they do. This location is across the street from our one and only "Fat Burger", and I would rate both the burger & fries from Five Guys, superior to Fat Burger. For the record, Fat Burger had the most bland tasting fries I can recall in a long time. Five Guys was better in all departments.
Any thoughts???
