Fizzie drink

I remember when I was a kid drinking some type of fizzie beverage. Basically, tear open a package with a flavored tablet, kinda like Alka Selzer. Drop them in water, they fizz up, then down the hatch! Does anyone remember the brand name of these?

In my world back then, if it wasn't cherry, it was not worth a second glance. Fizzies were right up there with Lik-m-Ade, Pixie Sticks and those bottles that you bit the top off of. Um, sometimes orange would make it through my taste-test, but cherry was just heaven for me. No wonder I have so many fillings.

Peachpie9, thanks for sharing your memories. Have you done this for your children and their descendents? You have writing talent! Write it down before it's too late, please. shaynas_mom, Fizzies were made without sugar, but with artificial sweetener, the only way that such a small tablet could sweeten the whole glass of water. Of course, that was also the source of the bad taste, but I watched the Fizzie in total fascination like everyone else. Fizzies were reviewed on some Food Network show a while back. Someone started making them again in the 1990s, but they have since stopped again.

Peachpie, thanks for that wonderful evocation,it reminded me of Dylan Thomas' Fern Hill "and as I was green and carefree, famous among the barns about the happy yard and singing as the farm was home in the sun that is young only once time let me play and be golden in the mercy of his means and green and golden I was huntsman and herdsman, the calves sang to my horn, the foxes on the hills barked clear and cold and the sabbath rang slowly in the pebbles of the holy streams" and 'fizzies too.....sorry Shaynas-mom,I always liked the green

Peachpie: You really took me away there. I could see it all unfolding as I read. I'd love to hear more of your stories. How fortunate you are to have those memories. The kids here in my neck of the woods don't even know about impromptu play...they all have scheduled "play dates". Kinda sad. As for fizzies...they were real magic to my 5 year old eyes.

A lot of "stoners" would eat Fizzies. They would make you drool lol. A year or two ago they brought them back to the market (atleast I think it was them) but I only saw them once.
