My favorite Q joint is in Park Ave Grill in Lake Worth, FL. Best ribs I have ever eaten, and the chicken is really, really good too. I have atleast one meal there everytime I am in town on vacation. Mark

I haven't had too much Florida BBQ, but I'll recommend Tom Jenkins in Lauderdale as well. Really good BBQ, but the real star of the place are the collard greens.

My all time favorite is Georgia Pig. Run by the same family in the same location since 1953, GP is located in Fort lauderdale at 1285 S.W. 40th Ave. Phone number is 587-4420 call for hours.

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had was last Spring at "Backwwods BBQ" near Interlaken, FLA (North of Ocala, west of St Augustine). Excellent pulled pork and ribs and sides and dessert. In St Pete, "The Butler's BBQ" (9th St & Fronrtage Rd) serves up excellent South Carolina style ( thin peppery vinegary sauce) pulled pork and other delicacies - the place also has a raw bar where fresh oysters are usually available. Cheers. John

Mr. Seafarer, pardon the correction but it's "Interlachen" JUST IN CASE someone gets down this way. Interlachen is east of Gainesville. If ever in Gainesville go far west to Newberry and get Cason's, this man(well he is deceased, family still runs it)place was once a screened in porched with a dirt floor, open fire right in the middle. The cooking started in the wee hours of the morning, he was open until 10p Monday thru Saturday(now Thursday thru Saturday). My favorite is 1lb pork(sliced not pulled)you get the meat, 5 slices of fresh white bread and a cup of his homemade sauce which is thin. I know it has tomato sauce and white vinegar in it beacuse I saw him in the grocery store buying those two items. He would never tell me the rest of the ingredients. He sold sides out of his own double wide trailer that was situated very close. The place eventually burned down and was rebulit with donations from the small community. The "new" place stands in the same place but it was more modernized and the sides are cooked "on sight" but Freddie still wanted his own area for cooking the meat. The "ladies" as he called them could have the "kitchen". They have beef, pork, ribs, sausage, goat, etc, and all the regular sides, okra and tomatoes, greens, fresh shelled acre peas when in season and many more. Since Gainesville is all chains(about 5 Sonny's)I gladly take the 30 minute drive west. Don't let the street folk scare you, they're harmless.

I had the dubious honor of having to spend 6 weeks in Mayport Fla. and being from Texas went looking for BBQ in Mayport. Not! Found an outfit called Bono's and they were pretty good (not great) but pretty good. I now find myself stranded in Kings Bay Ga about 35 miles north of Jax and where there should be good local BBQ I find a chain of Sonny's. There's no God.

We have Bono's here too and when I lived in Newberry I passed it everyday, smelled wonderful but I knew what I could get in Newberry. I did eat there one time because my nephew worked at one in Jax and gave me gift certificates. I'm just not a "chopped" pork person, the flavor was okay. I did get excited about the fried corn which was unfortunately still ice cold near the cob. They did have ice cold beer though and that was acceptable.

Rusty, thanks for the correct spelling (But I CAN spell Poughkeepsie and Schenectady). I've been looking for that goat place for the past three years since someone here on Roadfood mentioned one in that general area and I asked and asked and no one ever heard of it. We stay for a few days each February with friends at Lake Kerr City and would have an opportunity to seek out Cason's and Newberry to try out their BBQ - especially, on my part, the goat. Can you give me an address for that place? Cheers, John

Greymo & Baah Ben, I've never heard of Porkies BBQ. Got the phone book on my lap, no listing? It's been several weeks since I've been on that part of Ridgewood but I do remember a temporary BBQ sign hanging at what use to be Daytona Hot Dogs and was most recently a dog grooming facility, is that the place? Have y'all tried it, if so do you recommend it?

I just had dinner tonight at Kay's Real Pit BBQ in Cocoa. Oh.. so good.. The beef was fantastic. 50 miles east of Orlando, and 60 miles south of Daytona. 1 mile off I-95 (eastbound) on the SR520 exit. Here is my review and pics.... You have to scroll down to find it. Living in FL for 13 yrs and having traveled all over the state, I can't imagine any Florida "que" poll that doesn't include Big John's Alabama Bar-B-Que in Tampa. It's the REAL deal! You can smell the wood smoke from the pit from blocks away as you approach it. The ribs are fantastic and the pork sandwich (chopped) and chicken are also worth the trip. Sides are pretty standard and. although not exceptional, you'll like them all. Watch out for the hot sauce if you opt for the heat! QFan Bonita Springs, FL

In the Space Coast (Brevard County) area, Charlie & Jake's have 2 locations. I really enjoy their pulled pork because it gives me an excuse to order one of their in-house brewed beers. They always have 3 or 4 of these on tap & the selection varies by the season. I especially like their porter that shows up in the winter months.
