Looks like the date this year will be May 13 for the National Letter Carriers to collect food (the mail folk). We normally get a postcard in the mail announcing this event, but I havent seen one yet. Date of 14th annual Food Drive announced NALC President William H. Young encourages every NALC branch in the nation to get involved in the 14th annual NALC National Food Drive held annually on the second Saturday in May. In 2006, the date will be May 13. http://www.nalc.org/commun/foodrive/

Odd,--hmmm-- I usually get a postcard, but this year, I have not. I usually leave a bag of goodies when I am notified, though. Thanks for the 411, Unclevic. I will drop it off at the post office this year.

Around here we normally hang them on the mailbox, or put the food in bags at the base.. I generally leave 3 bags of boxed and canned goods out. (One can always visit Sav A Lot or Aldis, spend less then 10 bucks and greatly help out).

I guess our route must give a lot because last year our carriers sons followed him with a pick up truck so they could scatter out and pick up items as he went along. We always have a excess of canned goods and other items and are very happy to give for this good cause.

I dont know about the rest of the country, but I'm sticking another bag out. Following clip was taken from www.woodtv.com Postal Service food drive extended in Grand Rapids Updated: May 15, 2006 05:54 PM GRAND RAPIDS -- The effort this past weekend to help collect items for local food banks fell a little short. Letter carriers in West Michigan and across the country collected canned goods along their routes on Saturday. The greater Grand Rapids area collected 30 percent less than what was gathered for last year's drive. Now, organizers are extending this year's collection through Wednesday. You can still leave non-perishable items at your mailbox for your mail carrier until then.

I don't live in a "rich" neighborhood, but everyone could afford to help a bit. I don't think too many did. That stinks.

I saw quite a few bags hanging off the mail boxes on my way to work in Myrtle Beach. I have a central mailbox area, so I couldnt put one out, and, still never got a card. If it wasnt for Vic, I would have never known.
