Food Handlers exam

Hello all, I have to take my Food Handlers exam because it is long over due and I need it to get my Health department sticker renewed next month. Does anyone know of a good book to study or any test prep sites on the internet? I have the option of taking the full day class, or just studying on my own and taking the test. Any help would be appreciated. I am in Santa Clara county CA. Thanks

When I went thru corperate training they required us to take the 90 hr NIFI course and pass 80% or higher. I wish I still had the text and I just send it to you you might find it in the library. It covers everything from types of FBI to identifying types of roaches and rodent droppings. I would reccomend it to any one. If you could pass a self test in the back of the book, youre ready for anything the health dept can throw at you. I found this among others.. http://www.ingoodhands.ca/ britt

Does anyone know of a good book to study or any test prep sites on the internet? Many health districts will have a booklet with the information that will appear on the exam. You can pick one up ahead of the exam. The district may also have the booklet on their website to download as a .PDF file. A lot of focus is usually put into these areas: food storage temps (dry, frozen and refrigerated); holding temps; cooling procedures for food leftovers storage; reheating procedures; handwashing; foodhandling restrictions with infectious diseases; foodhandling procedures for serving including handwashing, gloving and tools (tongs) and how to handle food after handling money; and sanitation of equipment.

Many towns in New Jersey require at least one person on site(where food is served)aquire a food managers license and all others(in management) have a food handlers. I am the Assistant Director at a child care center and got my food managers license a few years ago. I would personally take the full day course to be sure you are up to date on all info. I don't know where you work but it is important to educate yourself and then be able to educate anyone who works for you or with you.

I just found some old Health Department paperwork that tells me I can pick up a text book for $23 and take the test for $60. Thanks DaveBugg and all for your help. Agnesrob, Originally I was thinking I would take the quick test for now but I might just take your advise on do the full class. It does make sense to be able to pass my knowledge to any future employees if I plan to expand. Spud, Yes I do have my card but it expires in August and this is the first year with my cart. The HD said I need the food handlers exam within 3 months after I passed the HD codes and I am way over due. This might sound like a dumb question but do I need to take my cart down to the Health Department every time I renew my card? does the cart need to pass anually? Again thanks to all

If I understand the question correctly, no. The cart inspection is seperate from the foodhandler's card renewal.

In florida there is a food handlers card which is for any helper, but there needs to be a food Managers card held by the main person. If you already have gotten a card, its pretty much the same questions which are really just common sense.
