OK, this requires a little story. In the late 1960's, I lived in Amsterdam. A song which was somewhat obscure in the United States (although it did make the top 100) was a major hit in the Netherlands: "Baby Won't You Leave Me Alone" by The Web. So much so that a parodist named De Zware Jongens also had a big hit there with what would now be considered politically incorrect parody called  "De Chinees Doet Veel Meer Met Vlees" (which translates to "The Chinese do very well with meat", although the dishes in the song are Indonesian, but that's quibbling). I am surprised that I remember enough Dutch to be able to understand most of the lyrics, but it IS illustrated, as well...

Off the top of my head, I can think of three food-related songs:

Red Foley's "Hominy Grits"

The Hoosier Hot-Shot's version of "Yes, We Have No Bananas"

and Tommy Duncan's "Who Drank My Beer While I Was in the Rear"

Regarding the 1923 hit song, "Yes, We Got No Bananas", here's a lesser known "blues" tune from later that same year that bemoaned the popularity of the original.

Oh the Murphy's gave a party just about a week ago
Everything was plentiful, the Murphy's they're not slow
They treated us like gentlemen, we tried to act the same
But only for what happened, well it was an awful shame

When Mrs. Murphy dished the chowder out
She fainted on the spot
She found a pair of overalls
In the bottom of the pot
Tim Nolan he got rippin' mad
His eyes were bulgin' out
He jumped up on the PI-A-NO
And loudly he did shout

Oh, who threw the overalls in Mrs Murphy's chowder
Nobody spoke, so he shouted all the louder
It's an Irish trick that's true
I can lick the mick that threw
The overalls in Mrs Murphy's chowder

So we dragged the pants from out the soup and laid them on the floor
Each man swore upon his breast he'd ne'er seen them before
They were plastered up with mortar and were worn out at the knee
They'd had their many ups and downs as we could plainly see

When Mrs Murphy she came to she began to cry and pout
She'd had them in the wash that day and forgot to take them out
Tim Nolan he excused himself for what he'd said that night
So we put music to the words and sang with all our might

Oh, who threw the overalls in Mrs Murphy's chowder
Nobody spoke so we shouted all the louder
It's an Irish trick that's true
I can lick the mick that threw
The overalls in Mrs Murphy's chowder

Here we come on the run
With a burger on a bun
And a dab of coleslaw on the side,
Oh your taste we will tickle
With a great dill pickle
And all of our potatoes are french fried, fried, fried,
Our burgers can't be beat,
'Cause we grind our own meat,
Grind, grind, grind, grind, grind,
When you drive away,
You'll really hear us say,
We bid you bye, bye, bye, bye, bye,
We bid you bye, bye, bye, bye, bye!
And as your on your way,
A tip upon our tray
We hope to find, find, find, find, find
We hope to find, find, find, find, find.

I don't know of anyone who has recorded it, but I have heard various Dixie-land Jazz bands play it.

On of my favorite camp songs from childhood:

On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
I lost my poor meatball,
When somebody sneezed.

It rolled off the table,
And on to the floor,
And then my poor meatball,
Rolled out of the door.

It rolled in the garden,
And under a bush,
And then my poor meatball,
Was nothing but mush.

The mush was as tasty
As tasty could be,
And then the next summer,
It grew into a tree.

The tree was all covered,
All covered with moss,
And on it grew meatballs,
And tomato sauce.

So if you eat spaghetti,
All covered with cheese,
Hold on to your meatball,
Whenever you sneeze.

A great version of a Robert Johnson song ( he was from Clarksdale MS).  Also done by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but the original version is still the best.
