Market Pantry, Archer Farms, D'Amico & Sons, Roundy's, Grandpa's, Maggie's, Finest Traditions, Chef's Kitchen, Garden Fresh, Weis, Spartan, Portillo's & Fresh Salsa Assorted Products (see list) (Listeria): AZ, CA, FL, IL, IN, IA, MA, MI, MN, MO, OH, PA, TX & WI
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm369670.htm

Looking it up, I just want to mention that these are prepared salads, like potato, macaroni, chicken, tuna, etc.  (mostly containing mayonnaise, but, except possibly the oil, I can't see a common ingredient), and not the undressed fresh green salad mixes for those who want pre-cut vegetables (I make a LOT of salad for myself, but occasionally find that the pre-mixes are useful if I am super-busy that week, so that notice put a bit of a scare into me).

Safeway, Carrs, Dominick’s, Genuardi’s, Pak ‘N Save, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb and Vons Angel Food Cakes (undeclared soy & milk):

I can't picture anybody allergic to milk buying angel food cake that is not specifically labeled as "milk free", though.

I would hope that the "Sour Cream" part would be a giveaway.

Pran Turmeric (excessive levels of lead): Additional state involved: MI
So I don't have to keep repeating this state by state, I think we can assume Pran Turmeric in ANY state will have excessive levels of lead
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm371042.htm

I wonder how much lead ISN'T excessive? As the recall notice noted, small amounts of lead over a long period of time is the worst way to get it. Apparently, the body can excrete lead, but only above a certain amount, which is the reason for the danger.

Price Chopper Coconut Custard Pies (no ingredients listed on label: milk, egg, soy, wheat & coconut allergens)
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm371614.htm

I did read the actual notice (I never knew that coconuts counted as "tree nuts" for allergen purposes). And I understand that these didn't contain ingredient labels. But anybody who is allergic to milk, egg, wheat or coconut who would eat a coconut custard pie without an ingredients label is probably too stupid to read an ingredients label.

Over 181,000 Pounds Assorted Ready-To-Eat Fully Cooked Chicken & Ham Salads & Sandwich Wraps (E.coli): AZ, CA, NV, NM, OR, TX, UT & WA (see list of brands)

Note that (from reading the original) those are the distribution centers; I would not trust any of those products west of the Mississippi, especially as the health risk is listed as "High".

The management at Trader Joe's is probably furious; I've already seen mentions of this on Facebook, and a good part of their marketing image is reliability and quality.

Once again, thank you for the reports. I do frequently go to the links, as well. I once went to a wedding where one of the couples attending had to leave; the caterer had pesto, but it was walnut pesto (then a relatively new variation), and one of the members of the couple had a severe walnut allergy; they had to go to the hospital, so undeclared nuts on a product that one would not expect to have nuts is serious.

But, as far as eggs in Fettuccine Alfredo, I could understand no reports of sickness; someone with an egg allergy wouldn't even CONSIDER the dish, and would only look at the ingredients if it was specifically marked "egg free".

I almost expected the Bolognese sauce with beef and pork to have undeclared beef and pork. Milk was a bit of a surprise, unless there is cheese in the sauce.

For those (like me) tempted to make fun of people not knowing that noodles had wheat, let me save you the time; the products were labeled as "Loaded Baked Potato" soup, not Chicken Noodle.

Not enforcing this might cause extreme bureaucratic unbloating.

bartl, I'm kind of curious why it is you tend to make fun of the recalls. I mean, yeah, some of them seem silly to me, too, but when the labels are wrong the product has to be recalled. If it's a recall that doesn't affect my life, I just scroll on by.

Thank you VERY much for doing these, 6star! Most of the recalls you post I would never have heard about, and the ones that have been for my area I hear about from you 99% of the time well before they make the local news.

When the recall has something funny about it, I point it out, notably if it's based on something that only a bureaucrat could get upset about, such as an undeclared ingredient that is part of the name of the food (like butter pecan ice cream being recalled for undeclared pecans). Sometimes, such as the chicken noodle soup, the recall doesn't make sense unless you read the entire notice (as I did, and pointed out why the recall did make sense). And a lot of it is to let 6star know that at least one person is not only reading about the recalls, but also going through the links and reading them thoroughly. And when the recall does seem serious to me, I mention that, as well. And do note that most of my comments are expansions based on reading the details, not making fun.

Lee's Sandwiches Pork & Pork & Chicken Sausages (Staphylococcus Aureus contamination): AZ, CA, OK, NV, TX & online

First of all, yuck! Second of all, luckily, it seems that there is only a possibility of the infection; they didn't actually find the contamination. Playing it safe is always a good idea, though.

May's Hawaiian Style Boneless & Skinless Teriyaki Chicken Thighs (temperature abuse during storage: swollen bags): HI

It's just Hawaii, but these are raw chicken products, and it's a Class I recall (that's the bad one). It's not clear, but I believe "temperature abuse" is allowing a frozen raw product to defrost.

Other than "what came first" comments, as a matter of curiosity, I did an Internet search for egg free fettuccine alfredo recipes. Did a lot of looking at pages, but couldn't find a recipe.

Since the Federal Government has complicated their listing of Food Recalls, it is no longer just a "copy and paste" situation for me to alert you on current recalls.  As a result, here is their website, so you can keep track of them yourself, if you wish to do so:

I just looked; it is REALLY annoying. For those who  just want a summary, the listing gives the state the company is in, the general type of product, and the reason. To find out if you need to be concerned, you have to visit every individual link. They do have a satisfaction survey; I filled it out. Maybe if enough of us do, they'll go back to more informative titles. In the meantime, thanks for all the work you put in, 6star!

Thank you for your kind words, bartl & ann.  I will periodically check the government website, but, at least for now, I see it as a hopeless task.

Thank you so very much for doing this for so long! I didn't often find something that I needed to worry about, but when I did you always posted WELL before I saw anything on local news (often a day or even two earlier). How dumb of them to change the format!
