Food tour in Chicago, 6-20-09

Here's a link to the pictures from the food tour we went on today.

In case you're interested, here's a link to the planning thread.

All of my notes are in the captions on the photos.  I'm sure other people who went with will post their thoughts on the day here.

It was a great trip, thanks to everyone who was able to join us, and sorry to everyone who couldn't make it, irisarbor, quixote, chuckL50, X1, JRPfeff, MilwFoodlovers and ChiTownDiner!  We missed you guys!

ETA: Doh!  Misspelling right in the thread title!  Is there a mod who can fix that "tour"?  Thanks!

What a wonderful trip. Judging by the pictures, I would have been in nirvana with the spicy calamari and langustino's. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Misspelled?  I don't think so.  Looks like someone is trying to make this thread more highbrow, or should I say This Threade more Highbrowe?

It appears that everyone survived Chicago, step one for any successful Roadfood gathering.

I should have taken my camera to Madison yesterday.  Between Cafe Soleil, the Farmers Market and La Mestiza (the Queso Fundido con Rajas and Chilaquiles con Carne Asada were out of this world) I had the makings of an epic length trip report.  And that was even before the stop at the Baraboo Meat Market to pick up this year's hog, not to mention the evening stop for frozen custard.

Maybe next time things will work out for us to join the big kids at their eat & greet.

    Be thirsty, my friends.

I love your pictures!  Looks like Chicago has smoothies.

What a fun time and to share it with your father makes it even better.

Here are the pics, read 'em & weep. And yes, I like taking pictures of buildings, skylines, etc.

Stricken, that link's not working for me.  It says "your request cannot be processed" and then it tries to load, but never does. :(

Those were some scrumptious looking sundaes, y'all.

They were excellent sundaes.  I usually have a hard time finishing substantial amounts of ice cream like that, but Gertie's is just so good.  I don't know what it is about the vanilla, but it's some of the best I've ever had, and it's usually way too boring for me.

Just getting caught up after nearly a month of traveling hither and yon.... Sorry I had to miss this one! The ice cream is great, but my heart is inside of those Shrimp Empanadas and that Pernil Sandwich. Mmmmmm!

The shrimp empanadas were a wonderful surprise, served compliments of the house!  Apparently the owner of La Palapa had been following our planning thread for this trip and had been anticipating our arrival for weeks, if not months.  He was so happy that we were happy, he sent out that platter of golden deep fried beauties.  Just one more benefit of being a Roadfooder!

^^As I said to Lucy, many VERY MATURE jokes were made in our car on the way to Gerties about the owner Googling himself. I'm glad he did! Those were an awesome, unexpected surprise.

Kodak says I may have characters in the titles of the pics that aren't compatible. Please stand by, I will fix this before I go to bed.

ETA I did what they said & still nothing. Maybe by the next tour?

Does this work for everyone? Little to no captions this time.

ETA also pics leftover from JRPfeff's party are the first on here. He invited me over Monday to help them take care of leftovers.
