Foods you've never eaten but now want to try.

Reading Dale's trip thread made me realize that there are foods out there that I want to taste.  Here is a little list:
 
Raisin pie and sour cream raisin pie.   I'll take one bite to say I did it.  Who knows...  I might take two.
 
Persimmon anything except raw
 
Pork tenderloin
 
Wild rice soup
 
lobster roll
 
Clam pie
 
Food from Nepal
 
Grouper
 
Berger cookies
 
Baluga caviar
 
I'm sure there are many more, but the mind is slow.

    I'm sure I can't think of everything I'd like to try, but I'll go with steamed burgers, authentic jerk chicken, and lobster rolls.

    I had never eaten lobster roll until last week at my sister's place in Rhode Island. I am now a real fan. It was wonderful!

    The only think I can think of is foie gras. I've had pork liver pate and liked it, but never duck liver.

    I finally got in a Runza and a horseshoe this year. Oddly, those should have been easy knockoffs for me but just never got around to it. I had my first foie gras on board a ship in the Mediterranean last fall.  I've had just about everything mentioned in this thread so far except Berger cookies are not ringing a bell.
     
    Thinking, thinking. I can't remember if I have had scrapple. If I did it would have been when I was a kid.

    Conch fritters...I've had conch salad and it was fabulous, but never fritters, which I hear are even better.
     
    Honestly, I can't think of anything else. I've traveled so much that there's not a whole lot I haven't tried that I want to. Not that there aren't things I haven't tried, just that I have no interest in doing so.

    balut
    durian
    kim chee
    caviar
    truffles -had the gnocchi with crabmeat and truffles at Restaurant August, but the truffles were so finely chopped, I don't recall any distinct taste

    Of course I would love to try the many, many things named here on Roadfood, but extensive travel would require that.I have been lucky to have been a specialty food buyer for a grocery store, and HAD to try foie gras, baluga caviar, wld rice soup( a Wisconsin staple), etc. If I had to pick one thing it would be a buttered lobster roll from Maine.

    I've had fois gras.  It's worth the wait!
     
    I think I'd like to have the entire presentation of Peking Duck.  Most restaurants only serve the duck in the little pancakes which is the final preparation as I've been told.  I haven't had any.
     
    I've never been to a Dim Sum restaurant and would like to do so.
     
    Runzas are now on my list.  (Not purple)
     
    Are Johnnycakes the same as cornmeal mush?  If not add them to my list.
     
    I'd like coffee milk served to me in Rhode Island.
     
    CRAWFISH BISQUE with the heads/thorax of the actual crawfish stuffed with dumpling mixture.  If I'm going to have it, I want to have it all the way.

    To me, they are totally different, though they are both made with corn meal.  A jonnycake is a fried cornmeal pancake.  Mush is made by cooking the cornmeal in water until thickened, pouring the mixture into a 3" X 4" X 12" rectangular loaf dish, letting it cool (solidify), and slicing into 1/2" thick slices, which are then fried before serving.

    Coffee milk is great.  A local store sells Autocrat/Eclipse/Coffee Time syrups from RI, and I make coffee milk quite often.  All 3 syrups are made by Autocrat.  I wonder why coffee milk hasn't caught on throughout the country.

    I've also wanted to try ceviche, but it would have to be specific because I hate seafood in general... tuna or something similar, no shellfish or anything remotely fishy tasting or I wouldn't eat it. I like the idea of the citrus with onion and herbs, I just can't do most seafood.

    Ann - look forward to it, Oct-Apr is the best time to visit.  
    billyboy should plan to meet us for muffaletas, and we can travel on and meet up with Mar52 in Breaux Bridge (first weekend in May) for their crawfish festival.

    Even though I went to college for 6 years in Cincinnati I can't recall if I had ever eaten goetta either. But then again all I really ever remember is drinking the gut swill local 3.2 beers that I didn't like but drank anyway.

    I have eaten all over the world so there's nothing I really haven't eaten.  But there is ONE thing I will never eat again......muktuk......whale blubber.  Nope.  Never again.

    I've had most of the items mentioned. But a few things I have never had, but would be willing to try:
     
    Sweetbreads
    Shad Roe (and I've read most of the Nero Wolfe novels and have the Nero Wolfe cookbook)
    Haggis (strangely enough, if it were baked instead of boiled, I would almost certainly like it; boiled, I'm not so sure).
     
    Some things I have had...
    Beluga Caviar: It's good, but I like the much less expensive salmon almost as well. Food writer Arthur Schwartz recommends pressed beluga caviar as a less expensive but just as flavorful form of beluga.
    Fois Gras: Delicious. But to the person who mentioned duck, that's a cheaper form of the real thing; god, but not as good as real goose fois gras. Illegal in many states. because of the real or supposed maltreatment of the geese.
    Authentic Jerk: Grace and Walker's Wood both make jerk marinades which is what most of the Jamaican people of my acquaintance use. I've asked barbecue guru Steve Raichlen what American wood I could use as a decent substitute for the pimento branches used in Jamaica; he said that oak is fine, but I have seen the pimento wood sold online from several sources. One trick I use is to slash the chicken on the bone (similar to tandoori marinating technique), then marinating in a plastic bag for 24 hours.
    Dim Sum restaurant: It helps a LOT to go with someone who speaks Mandarin.
