For Fun: Movie Descriptions that Miss the Point

The other day, in the TV section of my newspaper, I read a description of GREASE, reading something like, "A teenager tries to impress a new, fresh face girl at high school." After several minutes to regain my composure, it occurred to me that it might be fun to try this out with other movies: Descriptions that are technically correct, but completely miss the point. For example:

"A girl, falsely accused of murder, goes for help, accompanied by some new friends." - THE WIZARD OF OZ
"A professor does some hands-on research to learn about a religious artifact." - RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
"An accountant uses his skills to improve the lives of the men living around him." - THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

You all know what this sounds like? They've outsourced the programmming guide to another country. No kidding. I started to see this about 6 years ago when the company I worked for started to outsource the reports and transcriptions to Bangalore to save a buck. While technically proficient at English, they had no concept of our country, infrastructure, culture, and background. All they had was the net to look up names, places, and get briefed by wikipedia or some other source and make a summation or fill in something the dicatator assumed to be common knowledge based on what they understood of it. It could often be hysterical what they would interpet.

Sounds like a Woody Allen movie!

Nice one cavandre! I was trying to think of something for that movie, and couldn't find anything suitably off plot!

The realities of the dangers of living the Wilderness life-style are brought forth thru this tale of the primitive birth, life and violent death scenes of some of the predators/prey in a primal-forest environment. This lesson in the futility of facing Mother Nature is interupted by idilic scenes of natural (animated) peace and  beauty. The results of selective breeding are examined in great detail.

`A serious, but humorous study of the transformation of a chauvinist monarch of an Asian country into an enlightened government official capable of dealing with modern societies complex pattern of social order and government. A rather dysfunctional family structure contributes to the humor found in most scenes. The addition of musical numbers contributes to the chaos of the theme in several scenes, but overall they do not detract from the end results.
