Fred's in Burlington, WI

I did a little photographic experimenting (110 SLR) at Fred's and have loaded 10 of the relatively better images into a brief slideshow.

I have been following along longingly...
and hopefully as things pick up in the fall as they are occaisionally wont to do we may be back in the swing of things....

I think The Travelin' Man is the jinx for closing restaurants, not Wanderingjew, so we're good to go.  Of course, even if TTM did show up there would be enough Contingent good Karma to counteract any hexes he might bring with him.

Irishfest 2010 is scheduled for Aug. 19-22, so mark your calendars for the 21st!

Brad, you are downright prescient!  Irish Fest, 2010 is right around the corner and I'm already starting to salivate over the thought of a handmade Fred's burger on Saturday, August 21st.  I'm thinking an early afternoon meeting is in order, say anywhere between noon and 2pm, depending on what works best for the group.

From Fred's we'll head up north and east to the lakefront fairgrounds for Irish Fest.  This would be an excellent year to join us for anyone who is even slightly interested.  There's an excellent lineup of artists including Cherish The Ladies, Different Drums of Ireland, The Gleasons, La Bottine Souriante, Leahy's Luck, Liz Carroll, Screaming Orphans, Steel Bonnets, Whiskey of the Damned, and Young Dubliners to name just a fraction of those who will perform.

There is free admission on Friday from 4-5:30pm.  Saturday's admission fee is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and kids 12 and under get in free.  We will be going both days.

So, who's up for Fred's on Saturday afternoon, August 21st?

Hmmm...we have tickets to the Brewers game at 6 that evening so I'm not sure.  I suppose we could go to Fred's in lieu of tailgating but that somehow just seems wrong.
 
Edit: After talking it over we should be able to do both as the Miller Park parking lots won't open until 3pm, so count us in.

Probably not. We'll be at the Wisconsin state fair gorging ourselves on cream puffs, fried cheese balls, and real corn dogs, while attending the pig races. However, we should get together for breakfast at McBob's some time in the future. We'll definitely attend the brat experience on Labor Day Sunday. Still haven't figured out what to bring. No dogs or Polish. Maybe, a char grilled salami on French bread like Poochie's or Wolfy's. We'll be at the south end of the Miller stage, towards the front rows for Gaelic Storm.

We'll try and stop by on Friday.  Fortunately, there's not much conflict going on at  8:30 on Friday (when Gaelic Storm is playing).  There is a group called Two Tap Trio who can be heard here.  They're also playing at 8:30 on Friday.  We might start out at Gaelic Storm and then head over to see Two Tap Trio, but this wouldn't be the first time we had to split our time between two venues in order to see two groups in which we're interested.

I'm pretty sure I can do Fred's on the 21st, though I'll confirm after I get back from Florida (the 18th).

I doubt I'll go to the Irish Fest on the afternoon of the 21st; I'm more likely to go on the 20th, during the free admission period. (That's the "thrifty Scot" part of my heritage kicking in )

Be sure to let us know if you're going on Friday.  If you'd like, we can get together inside the gates at a specified time and hang out on and off during the course of the evening.

We're going on Friday.  Not sure Mr. Maki will be able to get out of work earlier than usual, so we'll probably be up there by 7:30 or so.

Our priorities are Different Drums of Ireland and La Bottine Souriante at 8:30 and 10:15, respectively.  There's three shows starting at 7:00 that we're also interested in, Kasir, Cherish the Ladies and Hatfield Sisters.

We'll be there, front and center (well, maybe a little further back, depending on whether or not your mother remembers her ear plugs) at La Bottine Souriante.  Not sure about the others.  It will depend on whether they're up against someone else we want to see more, and whether they're also playing on Saturday.

We have tix for Ravinia on the 22nd, so not totally sure I can convince hubby to do 2 things in 2 days, but he does like Irish music so thats a plus...
not sure about Fred's ..just Irish fest might be all we (he) can manage.

If the weather stays like this (cool, not humid) and I'm not going back up to Mayo on the 20th, I can do this. Will keep you posted.

We plan on going to Irish Fest but I can't see driving to Burlington only to turn around and drive back to Sumfest grounds. I'll check with Mrs MFL however. I could see AJ Bombers but someone would have to pay for my raw onions.

My little inside onion remark is my problem with AJ Bomber charging the same price for a penny slice of raw onion as they do for a slice of cheese. I just won't pay it and cannot eat a burger w/o onions, so no AJ's for me. I would certainly pay if they cook an onion as that is value added but raw onions at a premium price is just plain irritating and we have lots of great burger joints that aren't so foolish or so greedy. "What, did I break a window"?
Sobelman's is a very good burger but there are many others that I prefer. He runs a great place and I hope he wins the "challenge."
