Wheregreggeats, I remember years ago Jack Daniels gave away a chunk of land to their distilery as a promo... Nothing more then a sliver of dirt, but a buddy of mine took part and has a legal deed! I thought that was pretty cool... And still do!! (Until the tax bill shows up.. Ya, I'm a firm beleiver in Murphys Law)...

I'm mad at Ben and Jerry's. Years ago I took a factory tour. You get a chance to name/makeup a flavor. I gave them my suggestion. I think you get some sort of reward if they use it.

But, they never did use mine. The suggestion was a variation on butter pecan, except that in addition to pecans, it would also have walnuts, peanuts and almonds. It would be called "Really Nuts." I thought it was good.

My favorite Ben and Jerry's moment was once up in VT, they had freezers in some store with "factory seconds"...containers that were over or under weight, and were sold cheaply, with all monies going to charity. I bought a rather heavy pint of cookie dough flavor which turned out to be half dough, half ice cream...wow...I ate the whole pint and thought I would explode right there.

I wrote it with a smile on my face. Ordinarily a pint of Ben Jerry's is filling, but one with 3 times the amount of very sweet cookie dough was close to being too much of a good thing. I lived to tell my story...and it is most definitely a fond memory!!

When I was a kid we lived close to the factory (much smaller then) where they made Entenmann's cakes. My grandmother would go the factory store and pick up all the crumb cake boxes, feeling for weight...knowing more weight meant more crumbs. Once we had one that was almost all crumbs...crumb cake nirvana!! My grandmother was long since gone when I hit the jackpot with my Ben and Jerry's find, but I know she would have enjoyed that ice cream as much as I did!

Apropos this would be posted here... my long-awaited local Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop opened this afternoon. It is located on College Square in Downtown Athens, Georgia.
Just walking by there awhile ago and just posting this now makes me feel like I'm gaining weight. Gracious. I'll wait to go in until my belt is a tad looser. Sigh.

UPDATE: I received my coupon in the mail yesterday, so those of you that followed right away should have it already or within the next few days.

Of course, on my way home from work, I stopped by Publix and they had Starbuck's Coffee Almond Fudge on sale, so I grabbed a quart. I won't be needing ice cream again this week, but the coupon lasts longer than that, I am sure.

I am leading towards getting some "Half Baked" with my coupon!

I am in NY and haven't gotten mine yet either...although it seems my post man has been putting on a few pounds lately...hmmmmmmmmmmm??

A friend of mine, who lives about 1/2 mile up the road from me, and says that she sent her request not long after mine, still hasn't gotten hers. So, it just seems random.
