CK:  You are a glutton for punishment.  I cannot stand a cold shower much less a plunge in ice water.  The water at my dock is a chilly 45F and I could not even stand that.

If you survive you can come up to my town of Excelsior, Minnesota next New Year's Day and take the ALARC Ice Dive plunge through the ice in Lake Minnetonka. About 900 people do this crazy thing for charity when air temperatures had been below 0 degrees F. This is my wife Nancy (left) and daughter-in-law Christine. Ahem...I'm always the official family photographer for this event.

You know it's not a good thing when several Search & Rescue Teams are major sponsors!!

In SF there is a chapter of the Polar Bear Club that does a swim to Alcatraz Prison(or is it  from Alcatraz?)...

9 degrees this morning here just west of Chicago. I don't even want to go to the grocery store much less jump in a lake. Good wishes for your effort CajunKing.

Right now in beautiful downtown Roachdale it is 14, wind chill 3. Yep nice day in Indiana tomorrow for the plunge.

I have a spring fed swimming pool, water constantly flowing in and out, no need for filters, in late may early june it's in the low 50's, dive in and stay under for say 10 seconds, welcome to the I ate the Ice Cream too fast headache. No way I'd do a Polar Bear plunge this time of year.

I've got a few friends that do it here, too...I tend toward donating money and wishing them well. I can't even stand going to watch them. I mean...when you have to cut through a foot of ice to get to the water, it's too goshdarn cold for me to look at. But...good on ya!

I can't even read of this activities with getting the shiver's !!!

CK, you are a braver man than I am.  I would take the easy(warmer) way out by writing a check.  Give me an address.  For your effort and a great cause, put me down for 20 bucks.     
 
You may be thawed out for the Glee Club meeting.....But I think one of your body parts is going missing till Spring.

The water temp that morning was a balmy 37 degrees, the outside air temp at plunge time was 19 with a windchill at or below zero.
 
I got to be one of the first plungers after the torch barrier sprinted through the water.
 
My group ( a fellow lion and the chairman of the event) strolled out to about waist deep water, presented him with the check for $1000 and then they sprinted back to shore.
 
the crowd was cheering and eager to see someone actually go under the water, so I "NESTEA" plunged backwards into the water and the crowd went NUTS.
 
I am trying to locate pictures my batteries didnt survive the cold weather and my camera died.  :-(
 
Thanks for the encouragement / prayers / thoughts and such.
 
It was a good time and can't wait until next year.
Hopefully there will be ice on the lake then.
