I love it. And it's only 70 miles southwest of Amarillo.
And only 11 miles from Bovina.
According to what I found the designation is because of an annual Cheeseburger festival held there, dating back all the way to 2006. (I think the lege must have had some time on their hands in 2007 and was making busy work when they made that designation official).
Also found this: Within a 50 mile radius of Friona, there are more cattle on feed than in any other location in the world.
Plus there's a burgeoning dairy industry in Friona.
As everybody knows, cheeseburgers come from dairy cattle while regular hamburgers come from .... well, you know.
The Cheeseburger festival sounds inspired. I wonder if they need judges?
