Friona,cheeseburger capital of Texas?

I enjoy checking out the articles about various towns and other places and things
at the Texas Escapes website. the web adress is www.texasescapes.com

Well, today, one of the towns they featured was Friona, in west Texas. The land was part of the XIT ranch, which they later sold.Shortly there after  the land was promoted for a town site and the community was named Frio, meaning cold, for Frio Draw. Anyways, they have some photos of the town.
One of the photos is of a sign welcoming people to Friona, Cheeseburger Capital of Texas. I don't know how it got that distinction.Maybe Roadfoodies up that way have an idea and can fill us in.

And only 11 miles from Bovina.

According to what I found the designation is because of an annual Cheeseburger festival held there, dating back all the way to 2006.  (I think the lege must have had some time on their hands in 2007 and was making busy work when they made that designation official).

Also found this:  Within a 50 mile radius of Friona, there are more cattle on feed than in any other location in the world.

Plus there's a burgeoning dairy industry in Friona.

As everybody knows, cheeseburgers come from dairy cattle while regular hamburgers come from .... well, you know.

The Cheeseburger festival sounds inspired.  I wonder if they need judges?

While looking around for this I also came across this blog, Burgatory, which looks interesting.

Smoking is not allowed within that radius,  Friona could explode to kingdom come...
