Fritos large size chips
Sun, 03/18/07 1:07 PM

Years ago, Fritos chips came in two sizes (the actual chip not the bag) - the "regular" small size chip and then a large square flat chip. It seems that they replaced the larger chips with the newer "Scoops". I liked the old large flat chips better and was just wondering if they are still available - I never see them around here.

I too only see the Scoops and the little ones. I also prefer the larger flat ones.

you're right. I never noticed that before only because I prefer the small ones....mainly because I don't like the scoops, they're so difficult to put in my mouth!

They were "King-size" which suggests to me 50s/early 60s marketing. We'd buy them occasionally to go with onion or blue cheese dip, but they didn't have the delicate quality of original Fritos. The scoops are pretty bad. They truly do scoop up dip, too much dip. The curved shape cuts into the mouth. And the name reminds me of "Soylent Green" (and we all know what that is, don't we?)

We love the "scoopers" used in dipping our "Salsa-Whiz". "Salsa-Whiz" is my wife's concotion: she melts about a half-cup of Cheese Whiz and then stirs in some heated "spicy-hot" salsa. Something about the dip brings out a great flavor in the Fritos.

The scoops also go great with spinach dip made with Knorr's vegetable soup mix. Yum!
