With winter just around the corner, we've decided to convert our hot dog cart into a soup cart. We brand with Vienna Beef and they make a commercial line of soup and chili under the name "Bistro Soups." The plan is to serve 3 soups. What is your favorite soup? Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

                  yankee bean(thick as possible)
                  pasta/fagiole

of course the best soup is whatever is in your fridge, chop it up, simmer for hours, add some sort of small pasta(orzo is best), get some crusty italian(or french)bread and gorge yourself silly

Hmmm. I though I posted here earlier today...but

                      1) Ya can't go wrong with a chicken noodle on the menu
                      2) Tortilla soup sounds good on a blustery day
                      3) Your choice

Not much for soup but a good chili goes a long way.

Michigan is the largest grower of navy beans in the US. It's just like the Senate Bean soup somebody else mentioned earier in the thread. I was just getting a plug in for my home state. Most bean and ham soups use navy beans. And no, I don't know why they are called navy beans.

They're called navy beans because the first one served as a bosun aboard Noah's ark.

Back then, beans were often called to duty, but always in the Army. It fell to Samuel to become the first Navy bean as a result of his having done well at splicing during an aptitude test given at his high school.

At the time, being good at splicing was just about required in order to serve in the Navy because there were very few lengths of rope long enough to be used as halyards and sheets unspliced.

                              I hope that helps.

It would be nice if you had the three standards, and then a "soup of the day"

Yep, a lot of HOT air after I have beans of many kinds, Michigan or others...

I like a rich flavorful cream of turkey soup with rice and chunks of turkey; a thick split pea with ham enhanced by turnips; mushroom barley with chunks of beef.

What exactly is Michigan Bean? I never heard of it

Michigan is the largest grower of navy beans in the US. It's just like the Senate Bean soup somebody else mentioned earier in the thread. I was just getting a plug in for my home state. Most bean and ham soups use navy beans. And no, I don't know why they are called navy beans.

                                                        They'll get theirs come Saturday.

You know, I was going to let this go. Let the buckeyes have their little fun. I'm above this, I thought. Turns out I'm not.
