Frost Top Root Beet & their Lot-o-burger

Memphis TN had a chain called Frost Top Root Beer. Their
signature sandwich was the Lot-o-burger. The Lot-o-burger
was a giant of a sandwich. One could not miss the restautant,
because there was a giant root beer mug on the roof.

I am not sure if it was a chain beyond Memphis TN

There was a Frost Top Root Beer stand outside Shelbyville,IN in my youth. It also had the mug of root beer on the roof. I never tried it and its been out of business for quite a while.

There was a Frostop in Hamilton, OH where I grew up as a kid. The big burger on the menu then was called an elephant ear. I loved the name.
I had not seen another one that I recall until visiting Huntington, WV recently. They had hamburgers but no Lot-oburger, or elephant ears. Same great root beer though.

HHMmmm I've never heard of FrostTop but in NJ there are/were Weber's and Stewarts, both serve/d rootbeer in frosted mugs. Mostly a seasonal kind of place, both are driveins with carhop service. I don't recall their hamburgers but Stewarts makes a Pork Roll and cheese that goes great with the rootbeer..

Frostop had the best rootbeer. It was a smoother creamier tasting version of root beer. I've had all the others (Barq, Hires, A&W, Dad's, IBC) and Frostop was the best

I attended a food & ice cream show in February and Frostop had a booth with a a few reps. They were giving samples of rootbeer on tap. I must say it was the best rootbeer I've ever tasted. It's available in my area(ohio) and I'm adding it to my 2 locations.

I'm guessing that Ted's Frostop in New Orleans was part of this chain, but all I remember them serving on my last visit in December was Barqs fountain. This was the location just off Claiborne.

I live in Morgan City La. and im 43 yrs old, we had one but it was in the way of the new Hwy. There is one on Hwy. 1 in Thibodaux, one in Houma on east main, right next to intercoastl waterway but its a new location and doesnt have the mug. There is one in raceland on Hwy 1, one in baton rouge a block or so from the centroplex. One on jefferson hwy in new orleans area, a block and half from causway blvd. the one on canal is no longer open in new orleans area. I think the one in Laplace is open I remember seeing the mug but not sure if it is open. They all have the Lot-o-burger , the one in thibodaux still sells the rootbeer by the gallon. When i was young the gallon jugs were actually glass. Talk about good to take home rootbeer in a glass gallon jug. Kirt, colt1963@excite.com

The LaPlace Frostop is still open and doing great. The handbatter onion rings and fried shrimp are great as well as the gumbo. Also available on their menu is the "Catfish Supreme", it's a fried catfish fillet served over a bed of rice with a savory shrimp sauce ladled over it.

The LaPlace Frostop has been around since 1958. They have a large, rotating, neon-lighted mug out front. There are several pictures on the web. Here is a link to a couple of them:

There were two Frost Top locations in Springfield Ohio in the 60's and 70's. They were the best! I remember starting out with the small "baby" mug of rootbeer, and then gradually building up to the large "frosted" mug in my teens. It was the best tasting root beer next to "Frostie". My favorite food was the foot long coney dog. It came in a cardboard "footlong" holder that had a dog's head at one end.

Frost Top sold out back in the early 80's. The only location left is on Bird Road, but it still has the large mug on the roof.

I live in Springfield, OH and the root beer stand is still there on Bird Road, but the mug has been removed from the top of the building and the root beer is NOWHERE near as good as it was when I was a kid.  I, too, remember the kid-sized frosted mug and how wonderful the root beer tasted.  Footlong hot dogs were my favorite also.  It was a Saturday night treat to eat at the Frost Top Root Beer Stand and I long for those days!  I did just have a taste, tonight as a matter of fact, of some bottled Frost Top Root Beer.  It was delicious--distributed by a company in Columbus, OH.  That's how I ended up on this web site.  I'm looking for a place to buy more.  If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

We enjoyed the Frosttop root beer with a sandwich on a trip in Ohio - we can't get it around here, but it was some of the best root beer I've ever had - rich and creamy.

Just a quick ? is Frost Top the same as Frosty? Used to have that in Va. as a kid--1950-60ish and it haunts me to this day as the creamiest, rootbeeriest rootbeer on the Planet.  Anyone else???????????

I ate at the Huntington WV Frostop a few years back and was rather unimpressed with the food, but the root beer was quite good. Still not as good as Dog n' Suds root beer though; IMO, that's the best RB there is.

No, the Frosty Root Beer is not the same as Frost Top. I think Frosty was kind of regional, but I saw a six pack a couple of years ago at Wal-Mart. Naturally I bought it, and it was pretty much as I remembered it. Very creamy!!!

I am 55 and there was a Frost Top on Markham St in Little Rock while I was growing up. My dad loved root beer and we ate there many times.

Wow. Missed this one, somehow. I've only been to one Frostop and that's the one in Huntington, WV. Didn't eat there, but I did manage to get one of their really good Root Beers. Made on site, according to the carhop and just the right blend of traditional Root Beer flavours. Gotta make another stop there one of these days and try the food, too.

A number of the grocery stores in LaCrosse, WI carry Frost Top sodas in 1 liter bottles usually $.99-$1.19 per bottle. I have run across Root Beer, Diet Root Beer, Cream Soda, and Sarsaparilla.
