Frozen or canned Persimmon pulp information Mon, 08/25/03 4:27 PM (permalink)
I am writing this under roadfood as I have a friend traveling from Wisconsin to Baltimore for Thanksgiving..........the one tradition in her family for Thanksgiving is persimmon pudding. I have searched and searched and can find no place to order this product. I need help!

    Cheezie,
I have medium and very large Persimmon trees on my property, just 5 minutes off I-64, Just west of Louisville. All they do for me is make for messy mowing in the fall...I am not a persimmon fan!!
I don't know how far out of your way you would go for free persimmons....say 200 lbs or so ( ). From what I read they should not be picked until after the first frost...but they sure seem soft to me then. Let me know and perhaps we can work out something...

Cheezie and Al: They sorta grow wild on my road. There are two of them that I know of within a quarter of a mile from my house. You can always recoginize when they are ready due to the mess they make on the road. They are a astringent and are not good until the frost. I do not know what it is about, but if you partake before they are totally ripe, you will know the joys of pucker power.

Mom always picks a few and makes persimmon bread, persimmon pudding and anything else she can make up. Crows like them also and there happens to be several pecan trees close by. Crows come from miles around to feast. They go from one tree to another. Great competition with them and the squirrels.

I loves the fruits of fall.

How in the world my name got changed from Chezkatie to cheezie, I will never know!!! ( but I love it!) I do appreciate your kind offer and could drive our van down to pick a couple of hundred pounds of them up but I just looked and it is 590.42 miles
Total Estimated Time: 9 hours, 36 minutes to your place! Maybe I should just substitute canned pumpkin and after a few drinks, she may not know the difference!

Sorry, Ma'am, I tend to abbreviate or alter as the mood strikes. No offense intended.

If Gas prices were to drop a lot it would be less costly to use the real thing...but don't count on that.

I suppose we could box up 2 or 3 lbs of these little guys and send them along. After the first frost that is.

If you want to have some sent up 'Priority Mail' a couple of pounds would only cost you 6 dollars or so for postage.
          Let me know.

OK FOLKS...It is a New Season the 2004 Crop of Persimmons is beginning to turn Yellow and Orange. It seems early in the season for this, but with the cool summer we've had maybe the fruit has been fooled into an early ripening cycle.
I have three trees that are loaded with Persimmons. We use about 5 lbs of the 500Plus pound crop. Last year some local folks read on this site about our persimmons and asked if they could gather the drops, We had a nice time chatting with them as the gleaned the area under those trees.
If anyone wants some Persimmons and is anywhere near the Louisville area, we invite you to contact us via email to arrange a time--once they ripen up a bit-- to come over and gather as much as you may want. No charge to roadfooders.
