In 1998, when I had my first Fuddrucker Burger in Wayne NJ. I knew it was the bestest burger bar none.  Went back a number of times.  Then in 2005 I had one in Asheville NC and it wasn't anywhere nearas good as 1998s.  Soooooo, I am not surprised.  RIP.

Chapter 11 is basically reorganization, it is not liquidation i.e. Chapter 7 (see Bennigan's/Steak and Ale).

I'm glad the one by my house is staying open, at least the burgers are made the way you want, medium, well done and come in different sizes. For a fast food place, they are a lot better at burgers than 5 Guys.

Here is a link for the stores closing.

I see one of the "affected" restaurants is at 72nd & Lemont in Downers Grove, IL.  I haven't lived in the area for over 20 years but unless I'm mistaken hasn't that particular restaurant been there since the 1980s?

And what's with this "Downers Grove South" and "Downers Grove North" stuff anyway?

The only problem I've ever had with Fuddruckers has been trying to get a burger cooked medium-rare, as all the ones I've been in wouldn't go anything less than medium.

I used to live in Lemont, which is just south of Downers Grove. I moved there in 1980 and, if I remember correctly, that Fuddruckers was already open then. I ate there fairly frequently as, back then, Fuddruckers made a great tasting burger. Until fairly recently, the chain was one of my favorite places to go for a burger. About three or four years ago, though, the quality started going downhill at every Fudd location that I visited. The burger meat no longer had the flavor that made them so special, plus they changed suppliers for their once-great hot cheddar cheese sauce. The stuff that they're currently using is bland and nearly flavorless by comparison. I gave up on Fuddruckers and stopped going there last year, and unless things change for the better, I won't be going back. Just another case of a restaurant switching to cheaper ingredients in order to save a few bucks and thinking that their regular customers won't notice the difference. Wrong!! People do notice, and that's why Fuddruckers is in the financial shape that it is. They have no one to blame but themselves.

The last time I was in a Fuddrucker's was about 22 years ago.  I more or less lived across the street from it.  They used to have their own butchering on premises, and make their own burgers (and steaks).  They also had their own bakery, and made their own buns and cookies.  One could buy the buns to take with you, too.  (It closed and re-opened under another name, and is not very good.)

Do other Fuddrucker's normally make their own burgers and buns, too?

Mr Don from Miami----the picture you paint of the butcher shop and bakery is the way I remember the Fuddrucker in Wayne NJ------------great.

You ordered it cooked to specification---your name was called---you got the big, fat, juicy burger and took it to the bar which held the vegetables and spices.  Add Onion, tomato, lettuce, mushrooms, whatever----too bad they went down hill.

The one I remember did let you have your burger cooked the way you wanted it. But the condiment tables were absolutely disgusting.

You know Michael---it is probably the customers who made the mess---it often happens that way------------and then the boss closes that part down, and then
the customers screw up something else----they ruin lots of good things.

People are slobs.  Well maybe not you and I, but lots of others.

I can only comment on the one in Knoxville, TN .  I truly enjoy their condiment bar with the hot cheese.  Their veggies are super and pretty.  I have never ever had a bad experience with them.  My grandchildren enjoy the place and so do I.

The hot cheese is just about the only strong selling point for Fuddrucker's.  Can't think of any other place that lets you build your own cheese fries.

I had an ostrich burger there once.  I only remember it being very dry.

Oh, I'm sure customers messed the condiment tables up. But stuff was dried hard on the tables, which means employees were not doing much cleaning.
