World Record Hot Dog Attempt Planned for Labor Day Weekend

The Outpost Bar and Grill announced today that they have received confirmation from Guinness Word Records™ for their attempt to make the world’s longest hot dog. The current record is 17.5 m (57.5 ft) and was made by Conshohocken Bakery and Berks Meat Packing for the 20th Annual Corvettes for Kids fundraiser at Bally (USA) on August 14, 2005.
Star Prairie Township, WI (PRWEB) July 26, 2006 -- The Outpost Bar and Grill announced today that they have received confirmation from Guinness Word Records™ for their attempt to make the world’s longest hot dog. The current record is 17.5 m (57.5 ft) and was made by Conshohocken Bakery and Berks Meat Packing for the 20th Annual Corvettes for Kids fundraiser at Bally (USA) on August 14, 2005.
Jan Jensen, owner of the Outpost Bar and Grill, states: "This will be a fund raising event to benefit the Star Prairie Playground Fund. Companies can pre-purchase one-foot sections of the hot dog and 15 feet of slices have already been sold to local and National companies." Jan’s husband has been working on this project for quite some time due to the complexities in attempting the world record.

According Jim Jensen, "logistics are the most difficult part of the attempt." A number of local and national companies are working with the Outpost staff to ensure the attempt is a success.

Deer’s Food Locker of Deer Park, WI will make the actual meat hot dog which must then be transported some 15 miles (24 km) to the cooking location. Since most tractor trailers have only a maximum inside length of 53 feet (16.2 m), some engineering issues will need to be addressed. Shrinkage must also be taken into account when determining the length to make the uncooked hot dog.

Baking the hot dog bun is another issue to be resolved. Pohl Foods of Saint Paul, MN has been invaluable in helping find a Tunnel Oven in which the Bun can be cooked. A long, continuous feed oven that is open at both ends is needed to bake the bun. The delicate bun must then be moved to the cooking location. Guinness World Records™ rules require that both bun and hot dog are each in one continuous piece, containing traditional ingredients, and prepared in the traditional manner.

The hot dog will be cooked on a number of Weber Grill parts welded together to form a grill over 100 feet in length. Picking up the hot dog and placing it into the bun requires a 120 foot table and many hands will be needed to roll the hot dog off the grill and onto the bun.

The Hot Dog will be cooked outside of the Outpost Bar and Grill on Saturday, September 2, 2006. Volunteers are needed prior to the event to help in a number of areas: welding, carpentry, set up. Cooks, food handlers, and servers are needed the day of the event.

Is there a difference between the world's biggest hot dog and the world's biggest tube steak? I think I know where to find the second one already.

I'd be interested in seeing how the bun makes it to the contest without breaking into pieces.

I'd rather hold title to the "World's Cheesiest Car."
3500 pounds of yellow cheddar cheese.

Vienna Beef held the record back in 2004 at 37'2" using only one poppy seed bun. The dog included all the Chicago style condiments: mustard, onions, relish, pickle spears, tomatoes, sport peppers, and celery salt.

I'll take all the above... (Probably need to get several freezers to store it all).
