Both Sunday breakfast suggestions sound good.  I have a question about people's plans for other places in Mobile.  I gotta have my Dew Drop Inn hot dog, and they close at 3pm on Saturday.   Think there will be time to get back after doing The Coffee Cup and PegLeg's in Pensacola?  Or should I get my Dew Drop fix on Friday afternoon just to be safe?  Anyone else have a Dew Drop craving?

I might just be open to trying the dew Drop Inn on Friday. Let's talk.

Any thoughts about breakfast on Sunday before most of us depart?  I checked Yelp for suggestions, and have some ideas I can post if interested, or we can wait and check with the locals, perhaps Bill at the Brick Pit can be the point of contact for suggestions?

Sterling suggested the Biscuit King for sunday and I concur. It's really good, primarily locals and has those long tables so we can eat as a group. It's not far from Mobile and really good.

I was thinking something in Mobile proper,would be better, (biscuit king is about 30 miles away)    some of us have to leave early and are heading in other directions. 
I could do it if we go early like around 8 or 9 am  or so, but I'm not sure if everyone would be up to that though

There are lots of Waffle Houses around Mobile.

I'll have a country ham and fried egg sandwich.

lleechef is already beating me up for mentioning Waffle House.

The place mhill mentioned, spot of tea looks interesting- it's right downtown too and convenient for everyone
 
 
I've never been to either of these places but both seem to get good reviews (at least their breakfast does) I'm just throwing ideas  around...

The menus from both the Whistle Stop and Dick Russell BBQ look very good to me.

Dick Russell's menu looks really interesting. Any placew that has country ham steak works for me. I saw something really unusual on the Whistle Stop's menu--------biscuits with your choice of country or TOMATO gravy. What is their tomato gravy? Anyone ever heard of tomato gravy with biscuits and gravy? Inquiring minds want to know!

I saw something really unusual on the Whistle Stop's menu--------biscuits with your choice of country or TOMATO gravy. What is their tomato gravy? Anyone ever heard of tomato gravy with biscuits and gravy? Inquiring minds want to know!

Tomato gravy is wonderful!  It's like a roux, best made with bacon drippings, with tomatoes added.  Usually thinned out with milk.  I think they have it at The Coffee Cup so you will probably get to try some.

We'll be looking for a regular breakfast, as opposed to a Brunch, as it is a 14 hour ride home and we will be on the way by 10 AM we hope.
 
May do a Big Bob Gibsons in decatur on the way home later in the day. If not that Petro Brothers Iron Skillet  CFS is beckoning to me.

If the Coffee Cup has it I will definitely want to try it. That's one of the things I love about exploring different areas like this-----finding out about new items I never imagined.

I fell in love with Waffle House one evening in 1972 outside Atlanta.

I've only been to Waffle House a few times but I did remember good hash browns. Of course, I also remember that it was the only place open in Gulf Shores at 3AM either!

I am sure it is delicious. So much for my knowledge----I had finally figured out that in NJ and cerytain other areas they call spaghetti sauce "tomato gravy". No there's something very different called the same thing. Oy!
 

Our Friday late breakfast may be at the Iron Skillet at MP 299 (Dodge City) in AL....or maybe on the way north on Sunday.  Say what you will about the chain of Truck Stops, but I have found their Breakfasts to be top notch.

Al:  We have a Petro just west of Knoxville and I have passed it hundreds of times but I have never stopped due to the Watt Road exit being the site of three major truck stops and the exit is always crowded with trucks.

Can't get much more convenient than some Chef Boyardee goodness nuked in a hotel room microwave, and it'll put a smile on Michael's face...

I agree, you can't get more southern than Country Ham (although I always thought that was more of a mid south thing - Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee)
 
Considering the seafood and Cajun influence, I was actually captivated by the Cajun Omelet at Spot of Tea they open early too at 7am-
 
Either way, I'm sure we can decide on a place even if its not till Saturday evening - I was thinking the best bet was to ask Bill at the Brick Pit for suggestions.

If we go early to the coffee cup on Saturday, I found the perfect coffeehouse in Pensacola for me to get a decent cup of coffee.. I love the name of the place

I frequently stop at the Petro in West Knoxville for CFS.  It's inexpensive and well made.  Last time I was there, the server told me they were out, but she checked with the cook.  I saw him pull a steak out, pound it, bread it and fry it up.  No pre-packaged gooey burger patty, but real steak.
 
I was telling somebody last night, that I thought the cajun seafood omelet at Spot of Tea would be my likely choice.
