MikeS.

I just talked to Poverty Pete, he and I will hook up with Cajun King for lunch on Thursday. I'm hoping that my cousin Johnnie will come along.

Friday 7ish we'll head South to Mobile. We're going to meet up with WJ and Sandy for lunch in Montgomery.

You mean there are TWO Cousin Johnnies???

Buffet's "Bama Breeze"
Buffet's "The Weather is Here, I wish You Were Beautiful"
Buffet's "I will Play for Gumbo"
Buffet's " Stars Fell on Alalbama"
Bufffet's "When The Coast is Clear"

are just a few I can think of that will get you in the forgotten coast frame of mind

Good ones!
maybe add Little Feat's "Rad Gumbo" too.

I realize this is off-topic,  but the plumbers arrived at 1:15 this afternoon, and in less than an hour had removed the old and installed a new hot water heater, ran their tests, adjusted the thermostat, took their check and were gone.  We now have hot water working just fine....we had visions of driving to Alabama, just to get a shower !!!  I am more than pleased with this guys service.

Now, Come On Anne, we're ready to get this show on the road.

Ouch! I had to replace my water heater about four years ago. It had developed a leak. As I recall it cost around $300 for the new water heater and installation and removal of the old one. But I have the only plumber in America who isn't trying to pay off his yacht.

Terribly off topic but as a comment to Mister Mayor and Michael, my town requires a permit and 2 inspection to replace a water heater.

I plan on leaving the house NLT 0630. Gonna stop at Golden Corral for their breakfast then head south down I-81 thru VA and into TN. I should be in Nashville by 1800. Hopefully not too much rain and no snow.

MH. Double the cost you paid... but a super job and long warrenty period.  No permits required.

Anne call us when it is convenient for you, en-route. Remember the time change once you get inside Indiana and away from  Chicago.

We'll get that hour back in Kentucky on the way South.
Catfish dinner tomorrow night.  We are so looking forward to having company on the road.
Folks I will check in Thursday nite here on this thread, but I am not dragging a laptop with me to Mobile...so call my cell number if you need to reach me.

Can you imagine being on that ship and your room is on deck 4 and the main buffet is deck 10 with NO elevators.  Stinky is right but they should be washed up or out by this weekend.  Another Black eye for carnival "The Fun **** er I meant SHIP"

Yeah, I do believe that the cruise line will be doing their best to get these folks out of town ASAP after the ship docks. I don't think folks are going to want to stay in Mobile, looking at their 'Titanic'.

Roz and I regret that we will not attend this years Glee club event in Mobile.  As far as my health is concerned, I am much better and finally on a solid diet.  Something I have not been able to do for almost two weeks.  Regardless, I feel that I am not up to a 1200 mile round trip and enjoying the fine treats that Mobile offers and in addition enjoying the company of folks that I have known for many years.

I appreciate the efforts that Al has demonstrated not only this event but many others.  Roz and I will miss your company and we sincerely hope that you put the oyster industry on the night shift.

I feel very mixed emotions, my Friend. We will miss you and Roz a lot, but do understand about the need for recovery time.
I promise a full report as soos as possible !!

Another casualty, but not serious enough to stop her from heading South... Anne slipped on some Black-Ice while boarding her ride to Louisville and took a nasty fall.  She is OK, but shaken-up a bit. She is now enroute and called us to say she is ok.

Thanks all Roadfooders for the wishes.  No one regrets more than Roz and myself about missing one of the key events of the year.  Al, Poverty, Bushie and myself were the originators of the events many years ago.  This will be only the second one I have missed.

Mike Shell even volunteered to stop by in Knoxville to pick up Roz since I had a Priceline guarantee in Mobile so she could take advantage of that.  For that we really thank Mike but Roz felt reluctant to go without me.  I am not sure why because Poverty and Mike would have made great company" />

Please enjoy the oysters and BBQ and Roz and I will wear our ugly Hawaii shirts on Saturday night and raise our cocktails in salute to our friends in Mobile.

Well, first one in Mobile! I am in Fairhope, at Sterling's house. We went to a bookstore featuring a writer named Winston Groom who lives here in Fair hope. He wrote a book called.....Forrest Gump.
First food stop---buck's Diner in Fairhope. Rainy today, but they say it will be nice by Friday.

My small lunch:

Chicken fried steak with a side of sweet potato casserole, with some nice chunks of pecan in it:

The other sides I got: Fried okra, greens and cornbread:

Sterling's baked chicken:

Well, a nice start to Alabama. Can't wait til Friday lunch at the Dew Drop Inn!
