I was replying to Jimeats & V960 in my slicer post when it occurred to me that I’m not the only one afflicted with this problem. I decided to throw it out as a post on it’s own to give others a chance to start on the road to recovery; they say the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Thanks Jim & V. You know how it is, like all of the other kitchen gadgets I have that seldom get used, I really don’t need a slicer, I want one.

I have a Smokin Tex smoker and Weber gas grill, do I need another cooker, hell no, but I didn’t let that stop me from ordering a Traeger smoker. Now I'm trying to figure out how to convince my wife that it's necessary.

Lest anyone misunderstand, I sold a couple of guns to pay for it so as not to affect the household budget. The money is not an issue; it’s my sanity she questions.

Coming from someone who has two stick burning que portable que pits, a cookshack smoker, and a weber gas grill, amongst the several turkey fryers and a really cool cast iron turkey roaster, you can never have neough cookers/smokers

Hey cajunking, you're the man. The electric smokers are great for Butts & Brisket since they retain so much humidity but not so good for Ribs & Chicken, IMO. The Traeger with a digital controller is supposed to do a great job on R & C, I'll find out and let you know.

I had a hard time deciding between the traeger and the cookshack.

Cookshack had overwhelming customer service and support, plus their forum.
with traeger i had a hard time finding people that had used it and were willing to share their experiences.

i still am interested in learning more about the traegers, since they are comp approved and the cs aren't (yes the fast eddy from cs is approved)

I know what you mean; I’ve been researching Traeger, Louisiana Grill, and American Grills for over a year, after begging Cookshack to make a homeowners model of the FEC100 and being told they have no plans to do so in the foreseeable future.

I’ve gone to many, many, “Q” sites and conducted searches for these Smokers with grill names and found a lot of happy Traeger owners, two Louisiana Grill owners (One an employee), and no American Grill owners. After a year of intensive research I’ve settled on this one - http://traegereast.com/professional.html

There are Cookshack owners that can do wonders with them, first & foremost to come to mind is Prisonchef (Jack), an accomplished Chef. Truth of the matter is I do not have the patience to learn how to achieve the same results as Jack. My electric smoker turns out wonderful Butts & Briskets due to its ability to retain moisture, but I’m not happy with Ribs & Chicken. Hence the pellet pooper with it’s drier heat.

Not to leave the stick burners out, they’re great if you have the time and desire to play with fire, I no longer have either.

Hopefully this thread will assist Roadfood members that might be going through the pre purchase decision-making process.
