 German Egg Rolls

I have had these in several bars (mostly in the Ohio/Kentucky area) and would love to try and replicate them. Anyone have a recipe or idea how to do that?

    What are they? I have never heard of them, but they sound interesting.

      they were a mixture of sauerkraut, ham or sausage and seasoning wrapped in a egg roll wrapper and deep fried, then served with a mustard dipping sauce.

        A number of restaurants around here (especially the German ones) serve reuben rolls, which are corned beef, sauerkraut, and swiss cheese wrapped up like an egg roll and fried, and served with mustard dipping sauce.

          sounds like a good recipe that could have many variations. i may have to try it tonight! i have some hillshire farm polska kielbasa sausage in the fridge and saurkraut....have to get the cheese and eggroll wraps, but hey, i needed to go to the store to get milk anyway, hehe. my husband loves german food but is a very picky eater, this is something new i know he will love! i think i will precook my sausage before i stuff it in the eggroll, since i know it does not take long for the wrapper to brown. any suggestions for a side dish to go with these german eggrolls? i am thinking german potato salad...but thats the only german side dish i know!

            Wienerschnitzel is about the best do. Maybe that's too much fried, too much meat though.

              just to let you guys know, i made german potato salad with the eggrolls and everything turned out wonderfully!! my picky hubby complimented the meal before i had to ask!! i just put a few pieces of cooked sausage on top of a small dollop of bavarian style saurkraut, then laid a small slice of swiss on top of all that, in the center of my eggroll wrapper, then rolled it up. i used 2 wrappers on each of mine, just to be sure that the saurkraut did not make the wrapper soggy while cooking (thats just me, lol) but the eggrolls were great, as i said, and i dipped mine in plain yellow mustard, although i am sure the deli style mustard would have been better.

                    yeah, that sounds good! my hubby actually asked the same thing last night, so i will try that next. i imagine it would be good with bacon or even leftover pulled pork as well.(or a cut up, leftover porkchop) right now, i was just thinking that making a meatball sandwich in an eggroll would taste good. hmmm...but i suppose that topic would be 'italian eggrolls', lol.

                            Tried some this weekend, both German egg rolls (ham and kraut) and reuben rolls (corned beef, kraut and swiss cheese). Turned out OK but need some additional "oomph". Used bavarian style kraut, but may add some onion powder to the mix. Also, will try some smoked sausage or bratwurst to them. Back to the lab.
