Germany: Mobile Bratwurst-Booth...

Greetings, Bratwurst-Fans!

A german Curiosity are the so called "Mobile Bratwurststände". German food laws prohibit Street Carts for Hot-Dogs, Currywurst, Bratwurst, etc. But the Inventors of the Mobile Bratwurststände used a legal loophole, to invent this kind of sidewalk sale.

The rule is, the vendor must walk around, to sell his Bratwurst, and the other rule is, he has to carry his "shop" on his very own shoulders...

Picture:

In the big german big cities, some of these vendors sell up to 500-1000 Bratwurst per day, prices range from 1,50 to 2,00 Euro for a Wurst...

Hard-earned Money..., Respect!

German kind Regards from

Michael

    Gott im Himmel!
That looks like very hard work. What is the heat source for these cookers?

    Greetings, MilwFoodlovers!

For Bratwurst, and Currywurst, Charcoal, for Bockwurst and Wiener Würstchen, hot Water...

With these Vendors, there is always a second person around, organizing for Charcoal, or for example for hot Water.

Terrible hard Work, whenever one of the Vendors is around, I buy a Bratwurst, for me, and to share some respect, they deserve it, very much!

    Regards

    Michael

I would definitely like to see these in use...and unless the profit is huge, and I mean huge, the back breaking labor on depensing the brats seems just to much....not to mention when you need to take a break...like to take a #1 or #2.

Is that a post just in front of the man's feet to support some of the weight of the booth?

What about the booth in the background, it appears to be a stationary set up?

    Greetings, tiki!

Trad. a Wiener or Frankfurter Würstchen is served with here in Germany with a Brötchen (Hard Roll). Also german Mustard, mild or hot, most eaters here prefer the mild mustard.

    Greetings, David!

Probably..., as I wrote further above, there is always a second person in the "team", organizing the supplies, etc.

As far, as I know, the "standing time" is about 2-3 hours, then they change, the vendor does the supply, and the second person takes over the sale...

There was a TV documentary about the mobile bratwurst booths on the german TV, I will look for a link, or a video..., please be patient...

    Regards

    Michael

    Greetings, kland01s!

It must probably be a booth selling some kind of candy, but not fresh prepared food. Here in Germany there is the "3-Meter-Rule", a 3 meter section belongs to the Kaufhaus (Mall), they are licensed, to rent this area to vendors, but not to vendors preparing fresh food.

You can see on the photo, the Bratwurst vendor is just one step ahead the drain on the pavement, the 3-Meter-Rule, I hope, your question is answered...

    Kind regards

    Michael

David, you are wrong, this vendor is a german expat, the owner of several street carts in NYC, and some trad. german food restaurants, I have seen several documentaries about this man on the german TV, NO mobile bratwurst booth, sorry...

    Kind bratwurstian regards from

    Michael

P.S. Nevertheless, I appreciate this hard work, this deserves some respect!
(I love his german/english slang, very nice, btw, by his accent, he is from the Berlin area...)

Oh, how I miss going to the Schnell-imbiss stand outside the back gate at Bitburg AB for a bratwurst, mettwurst or currywurst on brotchen mit scharfer senf, pommes frites, and a Bitburger! (my spelling may be off, it's been 20+ years since those wonderful days)

I was stationed in Germany in the 70's. I remember buying wurst off carts back then. Hot wurst and a brotchen sure tasted good on a cold day.

Yes.  It's right here.  But the booth is closed right now.

How do you think the guy in the picture holds all of that equipment up?

    He's a priapismic entrepreneur.
