I ordered mine from a girl at work this week. They've changed the lemon cookie - to a frosted cookie instead of a sandwich cookie. Hopefully they will have a good tart flavor.

I was cookie mom for my daughter's troop a couple of years ago. An experience I would not repeat for a lot of reasons. I was shocked to find out that the troop only receives about $1 per box sold. The area council gets a chunk and of course the bakery that provides the cookies. (Depending on which bakery is used determines the type of cookies sold in your area)

Although the price has gone up considerably from when I sold them (.50/box) it is a tradition I would not pass on.

In Alexandria, LA price is $3.00; pre-ordered 6 boxes chocolate peanut butter (husband), 3 thin mints (me), 3 sugar-free brownie delights (me), 3 Samoas (me), and 3 All-Abouts (brother-in-law). They only come around once a year, and we don't normally buy other cookies, so we splurge.

I placed my order from a lady at work last week. TEN Thin Mints, 1 All Abouts, 2 Cafe Cookies(carmelized with brown sugar and cinnamon, new). When it's not Girl Scout cookie time and you're craving Thin Mints, the Pepperidge Farm Brand "Brussels with mint" make an excellent substution.

I was Cookie Chairperson 2 years in a row for my daughter's Brownie troop (glutton for punishment that I am) and we had HUGE orders of over 1000 boxes each year. I had an Excel spreadsheet - color-coded, of course, and did the pick and pack in my living room.

Two things disturbed me about this whole process:

The cookies in my area were always delivered during Passover, so while the cookies themselves are Kosher, the are not Kosher for Passover and I had all that chumetz (translation: bread products) in my house when I wasn't supposed to. I tried to explain this to the Girl Scout Council, but they had no idea why I had such a problem with the timing and wouldn't change the date or hold the cookies for me.

I was responsible for collecting all the money and paying for the total order. I am very financially organized and somehow I always got screwed out of a least $30 - $50 and had to make up the difference. Why do people behave that way?

Anyway, I was so glad when my daughter quit Brownies!

In the tri state area we have two different sets of cookies you can order.

Ohio (Cincy area) get their cookies from one supplier

N KY (Cincy area) get their cookies from a different supplier with different kinds

SE IN gets theirs from the same supplier as N KY,

Cost is $3.00 and $3.50 depending on who you and where you order from.

I want to try those lemonade cookies, but Indiana girl scouts do not have them.

I guess there is a trip to Cincy in my future.

My sister called from work today and a co-worker is selling them --- $3.50 per box. I ordered 2 peanut butter patties, 1 thin mints, and one lemonade. I hope the lemonade ones are good, because I liked the lemon pastry they used to have but they don't have them here (Lex, KY) this year.

They're $4.00 a box in Connecticut, same price as last year.

We don't have any lemonade cookies here.

I saw 8 varieties on the order form that went around the office:
                    Thin Mints
                    Do-si-dos
                    Trefoils
                    Tagalongs
                    Samoas
                    All Abouts
                    Café Cookies
                    Little Brownies

Definately Samoas. My Chinese pug and I ate two boxes of those several years ago. Unfortunately he died a few years after that but it was not due to the cookies. Great dog and I enjoyed sharing with him. He ate one cookie and I ate one. After two boxes, we slept for a while.

My pug slept in my lap for hours.

                        These poor little girls....

Cookies are best when they are fresh. Not out of a box that is month's old....

They have outpriced themselves over the years, just way to expensive lately.

I was bummed this year: No lemon coolers! They were great, and low in fat.
                                Cafe cookies are pretty good.

                                  $3.50 on Long Island.

The Little Brownies contain sorbitol, and have the standard excessive consumption warning may have a laxative effect warning on them. Someone I know ate most of the box in a day and suffered a bit.

I too am unhappy that the Lemon Coolers are gone. Too many chocolate based varieties.

I'm freezing up Do Si Dos, Cafe Cookies, Tagalogs, and SAMOAS!!!!! for the summer!

The cookies run $4.00 in Chicago. I tried the Lemonade cookies and LOVED them! They are almost 1/2 inch thick but not heavy. They ae light with a slight crunch. The have an outline of a peeled lemon impressed on the cookie and a nice lemon icing. They were a big hit with my family.

I got a total of 15 boxes mainly thin mints, do si dos, cafe & samoas. I paid $4.00 a box. These
normally last us the whole year. We just polished off the 2006 ones last week.

I also paid my dues being a Brownie & Girl Scout Mom. One year between my 2 girls, we had over 1000 boxes to pass out to family, friends & coworkers. As Lexi mentioned, we always came up at least $30.00 short.

These cookies are notoriously high in fat and sugar. The samoas you mention have chocolate in them. I'm to understand that you fed an entire box of these things to a lap dog? I can't believe nobody has questioned your judgment until now.

I found this recipe a few months ago, on the internet, but have not tried it yet as we still have lots of thin mints on hand. If you do try it, let us know how they compare.

                                              Girl Scout Thin Mints Recipe

                                              Chocolate Cookie Wafers
1 (18 1/4 ounce) package fudge cake mix
                                              3 tablespoons shortening, melted
1/2 cup cake flour, measured then sifted
                                              1 egg
                                              3 tablespoons water
                                              nonstick cooking spray
                                              Coating
                                              3 (12 ounce) bags semi-sweet chocolate chips
                                              3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
                                              6 tablespoons shortening

Combine the cookie ingredients in a large bowl, adding the water a little bit at a time until the dough forms.
Cover and chill for 2 hours.
                                              Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out a portion of the dough to just under 1/16 of an inch thick.
To cut, use a lid from a spice container with a 1 1/2-inch diameter.
Arrange the cut dough rounds on a cookie sheet that is sprayed with a light coating on non-stick spray.
                                              Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove the wafers from the oven and cool completely.
Combine chocolate chips with peppermint extract and shortening in a large microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl.
Heat on 50 percent power for 2 minutes, stir gently, then heat for an addition minute.
Stir once again, and if chocolate is not a smooth consistency, continue to zap in microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth.
Use a fork to dip each wafer in the chocolate, tap the fork on the edge of the bowl so that the excess chocolate runs off, and then place the cookies side-by-side on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.
Refrigerate until firm. Makes about 100 cookies

                                                2 tablespoons buttermilk
                                                1 1/2 cups all-er purpose flour
                                                1/8 teaspoon baking powder

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the shortening, sugar, vanilla, and salt with an electric mixer.
Add the egg and beat mixture until it's fluffy.
Add the baking soda and mix for about 20 seconds, then add the buttermilk and mix for an additional 30 seconds.
In another bowl, combine the flour and baking powder.
Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients and mix well with an electric mixer until flour is incorporated.
Roll the dough into a ball, cover it with plastic wrap and then chill it for 1 hour.
                                                Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Arrange cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 12/15 minutes or until golden brown.

Lexi, I feel your pain. This year our cookies arrived on the first day of Lent, and many Catholics give up sweets for Lent.

                                                    In our area: 3.50/box.

Keebler Fudge Shoppe Grasshopper cookies taste similar to Thin Mints, once the supply runs out.

Many years ago when I worked in DC, I bought cookies from Girl Scouts in both Maryland and Virginia. They apparently used different baking companies. One set of Thin Mints had a light-colored wafer in the middle, with the chocolate coating. The other had a dark-colored wafer in the middle. But as far as I could tell they tasted the same.

If a pollster did any anonymous, scientific survey, I wonder what percentage of people would admit to having consumed an entire box of GS cookies in a single day?

Ok, I'll go first. My name is Peggy and I have absolutely no Girl Scout cookie resistance.
I have been known to eat a whole box in a single sitting, let alone a single day. Got milk? I'm always sorry and repentant afterwards, and usually manage more restraint thereafter (at least until next year)...
Tagalongs, Samoas, and Thin Mints will be my downfall. But, what a way to go!

Strangely there have been no cookie crack dealers Girl Scouts and/or their moms selling cookies around here. I require Samoas, as the last of my carefully hoarded supply is gone.

My daughter quit Girl Scouts this year so I wasn't able to order from her. Then when they sold them after church last Sunday I only had $10.00 and some change with me so I was limited to three boxes. (They lasted until yesterday afternoon.) I intentionally refrained from buying Samoas because I am the only one in the family who will eat anything with coconut and once I open a box of Samoas, I'm a goner ... meaning, I keep going until they're gone!
