Go To Donuts

Well a few people and I were bored today and work and we started talking about our favorite donuts. I talked about my donut exploration that I have done through the Dayton area and I found that I tend to get 2 donuts whenever I am trying out a new place as they tend to give me an overall impression of the quality: carmel glazed persian and apple fritter. Sometimes I make out good and sometimes I don't but more often than not at least 1 is edible. I sometimes deviate but not very often, so my question is does anybody else of have a "Go To" donut?

It's definitely the plain cake donut for me. I like one with a nice crunchy outer crust. If I want a second kind, I usually go with custard/Bavarian cream with powder on the outside.

I always look for a raspberry jelly filled. With everything else they're serving these days, the local Dunkin' took these out of the rotation...I've haven't been back since I found that out.

Plain Cake, Chocolate Cream Filled, Cruellers, and I always ask if they have a speciality...Russ Try eating a plain cake donut after slicing it in half like a bagel. Then toast it medium and serve it hot with butter. Best done in a toaster oven as they are tough to get out of a toaster.

Call me boring, but my go to always has to include at least one glazed. I love all kinds of douts but nothing beats a really good plain glazed. But I also look for something unique to go with it. I tried an interesting one last week. Auddino's Bakery across from the fairgrounds in Columbus has deep fried glazed croissants. That will have to become a regular but not to frequent (given that it has to be really bad for you) treat in our house.

Have to second that and add a donut with just the top chocolate frosted. So when I stop in a donut place I usually walk out with those two. Anything else I get there is for someone else. Allan

A regular glazed donut works for me, or a glazed twist. After that, probably a cinnamon roll of some kind, chocolate donut, and a Bavarian (Boston) cream filled donut would be my next choices.

hatteras04 ...I tried an interesting one last week. Auddino's Bakery across from the fairgrounds in Columbus has deep fried glazed croissants. That will have to become a regular but not to frequent (given that it has to be really bad for you) treat in our house. Baker's supermarket in Omaha, Ne., also has a deep-fried, glazed croissant. It sounds weird, but is VERY yummy. And yes, I agree with you hatteras04 -- it has to be very bad for you!
