Going to Columbus Ohio next week

I'm heading back to Columbus to see my Mom.  This time looking for a great bakery.  Also good blue plate specials.  Can't wait to try Jeni's ice cream, I read so much about it.  How about the best Farmer's Market?  Thanks for the advice.

Are you flying or driving?  My guess is the silver bird since you didn't specify a route, but it can't hurt to ask.

I am traveling by car.  Leaving Richmond VA on 64 to 81 south.  Then 64 to Charleston WV, 77 to 33 into Columbus.  Do you know of anything along the way?

When driving on 33 through Athens, OH stop at Avalanche Pizza. They do an incredible job with the usual toppings but with over 45 different toppings they have some very unique pies. Check out their website to see what I mean. http://avalanchepizza.net/
They only have take out but when I am passing through what I do is call in my order when I am 20 minutes from Athens then pick it up and find a nice spot on the campus of nearby Ohio University to eat it.

What part of town will you be staying in?

Grandview, close to OSU and Arlington, but I will have a car and don't mind driving.

If you're able to get to Cap City on a Wednesday get their Provimi veal calves liver.
 
Also, you might want to try Phillip's Coney Island on West Broad Street, just west of the center of Columbus, for their coneys and the wonderful bean soup.

Bono pizza is good and I would get the carbonara pizza but it is very small so you might consider getting carry out.  It is pretty close to Grandview.  There is also a Dewey's on 5th Ave which has good pizza and a big dining room. 
 
Cap City is good but I've been there so many times i'm kind of tired of it.
 
If you're looking for an upscale meal in the Grandview area, my wife and I really liked 3rd and Hollywood.  They have a great pimento cheese appetizer and all of the entrees we tried we good. It is also within walking distance of the Grandview Jeni's.
 
If you want BBQ, there is a great food truck in Clintonville on High St north of campus called Ray Rays.  He is only there Friday-Sunday.  I have not been on a Sunday but he does grass fed brisket that day only.  I have had the regular brisket, ribs, and pulled pork and all were good.  I did not like the mac and cheese.
 
For Chinese, I like the Hunan House on 161 (Dublin Granville Rd) on the Northeast side.  A little closer to Grandview is Fortune on Olentangy which recently came under new ownership and is very good.

It's very good.  And for just donuts, you don't have to leave Grandview, just go to the DK diner on 3rd.

I was in Columbus a few weeks ago for a trade show.  We stumbled upon this EXCELLENT indoor market.  too bad we had already eaten at some tourist trap near the convention center.  This market has it ALL.  We were kicking ourselves for missing out on going there for lunch.  Check out the website.  Awesome looking hot lunches, bakery, breads, cheeses, sausage, you name it, they had it and plenty of ample seating on an outdoor porch under an awning, AND they validate for parking.  What more could you want?

I agree about the North Market.  There is a Jeni's there by the way.  My favorites for meals there are the Polish stand and the Poultry and Game counter (though  they don't always have prepared food).  There is also an interesting pizza stand there named Clever Crow.  The crust is very dense and is kind of a sourdough cornmeal.  They also do some interesting toppings like butternut squash and corn.  It's definitely worth a try.
