Golden Corral, anything good there?

I am forced to go to Golden Corral now and then as several in my family love the place.

I see an "apple bacon wraped serloin" advertised on TV. Looks kinda good but??

I usually just do the salad stuff. I have never been to a buffet and not found something I liked.

What's good at GC and whats not? All input on this place is welcome.

the GC here is crowded with senior citizens
by 4:45..they pay $5.00 and wait til the steak is served at 5.
what vegetables aren't canned are cooked to death.
    lots of starches.
not worth the standard price for lunch or dinner.
the breakfast buffet is so crowded we don't bother.
people in albuquerque certainly like crappy food.
i am only referring to the GC in albuquerque.

Because of its proximity and thae fact that it's surrounded by chains and FF places, Mrs. Oneiron and I hit GC about once a week for lunch. Because she only eats salads and there is a variety, we go there. But we're never displeased. It's also a great people-watching place - you really see some sights, like the rasslers (and their husbands) who fill up 3-4 heaping plates full, or the seniors who take forever going thru the line, or the tattoo'ed rednecks (and their husbands), and many others. Also, the one we frequent seems to have very good quality.

Sunancer, lots of stuff on that menu! The can't have all that stuff all the time, can they? It joged my memory, besides the salid stuff the steamed peal n eat shrimp is good. Kinda hard to mess that up less you over cook it.

Oneiron, what kind of salad stuf does your wife like? And... is that all you eat?

Ok yall, what breakfast stuff is good?

Xannie, yall couldn't find anything you liked? I would think they might have some green chile something there.

Mrs. Oneiron is notorious for eating only salad, but at GC, she breaks down for some veggies and maybe mashed potatoes, which are quite good at GC, and when she's really feeling frisky, about a credit card size piece of fish. I, on the otherhand, will get a big salad and soup, and a plate of veggies and maybe some meat selection. I like their sweet tea also.

Buffets are a good place for anyone on a low carb diet - because you can always eat a salad or three.
But, be casreful when on a low/no carb diet at buffets. Many of the sauces are made cheaply and often contain corn syrup, even when the real version of the sauce should be carb free. That includes the salad dressings. Be careful when getting salad dressing. Stick to oil and vinegar when possible.

I only go to GC occasionally, even less occasionally now that the kids are grown and out. I tend to browse a little of everything figuring that if I dont eat enough to cover the cost at least Im making the dishwasher busy But then that goes for any of the buffett style places

The first time I ate at Golden Corral was in Orlando - they had cheeseburgers on the lunch buffet which were outstanding. I haven't had anything too worthwhile at any other Golden Corral since.

They are similiar to OCB but GC has steaks on the weekends at lunch. That is the only time I've been there. And I always get my steak the way I want it. They have several cooking at the same time so you just ask for the donenessss you want.

the golden corral buffet and grill, 10415 central ne, is scheduled to open today. it is one of golden corral's new "pavillion-style" restaurants-which have six chef stations offering foods of italy, asia, mexico and american home-style cooking; and a salad bar and bakery station.

I think Golden Corral is a little bit like a lot of places. You pick and choose their best. I have enjoyed their Saturday morning breakfast and have occasionally done their daily buffet. You sort pick what you wish. Some of it is very good and some of it is not so good.

Their fresh baked bread is very good.

Adj, we will see after we get Xannie's review. Or??? have you tried one of the new pavillions?

In my opinion their veggies and salad tends to be very good. I watch the folks who stock the food. Fresh fried chicken is very good, most of them grill steaks and other meats. I request my steak rare as they tend to cook everything well done. I have found that if I request something, I get it fresh and special. Their desserts are very good.

For breakfast, the GC's around Knoxville will do custom eggs.

GC is like a lot of other buffets. You have to watch for fresh stuff.

Most folks do not know this but you can request almost anything fresh. At this time, I would not request fresh spinach

Always enjoy going to Golden Corral in Dothan & Panama City - great service,
hits the spot at the right time!

Although we've had two experiences as of late that have nothing to do with
    the food:

Dothan - Went recently at 3PM only to find out the compressors for the air
conditioning were being repaired, so it felt like 90-100 inside..." />

Panama City - Get our usual place, only then a few minutes later, here comes
a team of Little Leaguers in for dinner after a game nearly next to us, so
we have to see the parents/coaches try to settle them down, and when they
finish, they have to run off their energy....

Old Country Buffet here (sadly, now closed) was a lot better than GC.

GC is like a large trough where the hogs are fed, with similar quality food. Don't EVER go near GC on their "Veterans Eat Free" nights, unless you want to try to fight through a crowd of geezers attempting to relive the battles of WWII as they assault the buffet. Their "steaks" can be taken home and sewn together to make loafers.
