Someone may want to switch this to the Where should I eat? bucket. But in any case, do you mean "traditional" Chinese food by Chinese standards, or by American standards? If the former - specifically, authentic Northern Chinese food, you should check out Joe's Noodle House on Rockville Pike across from Congressional Plaza. A little hard to find but really great food - much more than noodles. Bring friends; you'll definitely want to try lots of things and share.

There is decent (Cantonese) dim sum in MoCo, too: Good Fortune in Wheaton, and Oriental East in Silver Spring.

As for traditional American-style Chinese food of the beef and broccoli and eggroll type, you can find those at Joe's as well; otherwise not sure I can help you.

Oh, and if you're *really* brave, Bob's Noodle 66 (also way more than noodles) near downtown Rockville has very good and authentic Taiwanese food.

I agree with Joe's--it is terrific. What I'd like to know is what happened to great hole in the wall chinese delivery here in Mont.county! we live downcounty (between Bethesda and White flint) and can't find good delivery in general. Love to hear your recommendations!

Drive across the Cabin John Bridge on 495, exit Rt. 7 East. Continue through Falls Church and just before Bailey's Crossroads, the Peking Gourmet Inn is on your right. http://www.pekinggourmet.com/

Hmm... doesn't Foong Lin in Bethesda deliver? It's not quite hole-in-the-wall, but not exactly avant garde on the one hand or authentic on the other.

Oh, and China Taste/Tokyo Express on Rollins - do they deliver? I like their Chinese food.

I was just listening to the Kojo Nnamdi show on WAMU, and the following program was on:

12:30 Exploring Ethnic Neighborhoods Through Food
Ethnic communities throughout the Washington area contribute to the region's cultural diversity and vibrancy. But these ethnic pockets aren't always located where you expect them to be. Join Kojo as we explore how food and restaurants tell the story of immigration patterns throughout the Washington region.

They noted that north Rockville was the new Chinatown, complete with Chinese characters on bank signs. Anyone else noticed this?

They also mentioned the preponderance of Pho restaurants in the area, and why they often have numbers after their names. Pho75, for example, means they came over from Vietnam in 1975. Interesting, eh?
